What to Expect During A Prenatal Massage

What to Expect During A Prenatal Massage

At 18 weeks, I went to book a massage and then realized I could no longer lay flat on my stomach and that it was time to book the prenatal.  I immediately got nervous and began Googling how prenatal massages are done.  I was intimidated to feel uncomfortable on the table with my changing body and didn't want to put myself in an awkward position.  Here's everything I learned from my first prenatal massage.

Hoboken: Best of Beauty & Wellness

Hoboken: Best of Beauty & Wellness

When I first moved from the city to Hoboken a little over four years ago, I was convinced that I was going to hate it.  A typical New York attitude.  Today, I can't express how much I absolutely love this little city and am so proud to call it home.  Of course, I did my fair share of exploring and testing out all of the beauty and wellness offerings the town has to offer.  While I still go to NYC for many of my services (see my round up of the best salons and spas in NYC here), I found some real talent in Hoboken.  Here's my edit of the best of beauty and wellness in Hoboken.

Massage Therapy: An Important Part of Your Self-Care Regimen

Massage Therapy: An Important Part of Your Self-Care Regimen

Throughout the past few years, I've been incorporating massages into my self-care routine as often as possible.  Working out about six times per week, I find them necessary to help break up Knots and give my muscles some tlc.  Barre classes often make me feel tight and crunchy and SoulCycle's been rough on my hip flexors.  Like a good yoga class, a deep tissue massage also helps to relieve stress and make me feel a bit lighter on my feet.  In honor of Global Massage Makes Me Happy Day coming up on March 20th, spoke with Lynda Solien-Wolfe the Vice President of Massage & Spa at Performance Health to make a case for monthly massages.

What to Know Before Getting an Ayurvedic Massage

What to Know Before Getting an Ayurvedic Massage

This week in Miami, Joe and I were able to enjoy the Lapis Spa at the Fontainebleau for a few hours.  Typically, when we get spa treatments on vacation, we always opt for deep tissue couples massages.  This time however, something else caught my eye on the spa menu and I'm glad I tried it.  After all, it is part of my job!  With an open mind and spiritual interest, I tried an Ayurvedic massage called Abhyanga, which is an ancient Indian massage therapy that uses a combination of oils according to your Dosha type in order to unblock your chakras and relieve stress.  Dosha? Chakras?  Allow me to explain.  Here's everything you should know before trying an Ayurvedic massage.

Tried It: Lush Synethesia Massage

Tried It: Lush Synethesia Massage

When the Lush Spa first opened in NYC I was eager to try one of their most unique treatments, a Synethesia massage, and finally got around to taking the time out.  My masseuse, Jay, first asked me to choose a word off of a chalk board and then a phrase off from bottles of oil that would dictate the unique experience.  My choices –'enlightened' and 'free and playful.'  The massage was a carefully coreographed heightening of the senses and may I also add, the best of my life.
