Get the Look: Kristen Stewart's Bitten Lips & Sparkling Eyes at the Breaking Dawn Part 2 Premiere

––Who saw Breaking Dawn Part 2?  Sorry Twihards, but I never wanted anything to do with Twilight.  Kristen Stewart however, intrigues me.  The actress showed up to the LA premiere of the Twilight Saga last week donning a vintage Zuhair Murad gown paired with Jimmy Choo shoes looking better than ever.  I was shocked when I saw the photos and got the scoop on her glam look from her makeup artist, Jillian Dempsey. "It was really about continuing the luminosity of her dress with shimmering makeup," Dempsey remarks.  "I used iridescent shadow so the light would bounce of here eyes and contrasted bitten, almost stained lips with Kristen's porcelain skin."

Cheeks: For flushed cheeks, Dempsey used Chanel Powder Blush in In Love, but didn't go over board as she wanted to keep color focus on Kristen's lips to keep it glamorous.

Eyes: "I applied layers of shimmery taupe and gold all over the lid and then shaded the crease with a deeper color from Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Spices," she explains.  On Kristen's upper and lower lash lines, Dempsey used Chanel Intense Eye Pencil in Noir and smudged shadow underneath the lower lash line to create a softer effect.  To plump up her lashes, Dempsey used Tarte Lash Enhancing Primer than black mascara.

Lips: To hydrate, Dempsey first applied Chanel Rouge Coco Baum then lined them with Laura Mercier Lip Liner in Crushed Berry and filled them in with Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Lip Colour in La Sensuelle.

Award Winning Hair: How to Get Sofia Vergara's Loose Waves

If you noticed Sofia Veraga's wardrobe malfunction at the Emmys, you were paying too much attention to how tight her Zuhair Murad gown was and not enough attention to her bombshell waves were.  Let's focus on the positives people!  Inspired by the texture of the dress, Jen Atkin, Sofia’s Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy Celebrity Stylist commented, “Sofia is a sexy woman who can work a full volume look so we did a twist on a 60s style and made it modern by keeping it long with loose sexy waves and volume at the crown.”  Check out this video on how to recreate her look:

How to Rock Beachy Waves in the Fall, Nicole Kidman Style

What's easier than sporting beachy waves all summer long?  Nothing.  According to celebrity stylist, Oribe, the undone style can be worn well into the wintertime and he proved it by styling Nicole Kidman for the September issue of V magazine.  Have you ever seen her like this?  Hot.  Here's how to turn your tousled, care free hair up a few notches into polished, sex kitten waves.

  1. Apply a light weight gel to 2-inch sections of wet hair and use your fingers to style creating waves and texture.
  2. Diffuse it or let it air dry.
  3. Spritz a beach spray like Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray from mid shaft to the ends for shine and separation.
  4. Smooth a light weight serum through for added control.
  5. Curl two inch sections with an iron in random places for added drama.

Spring Hair Trend: Rose Gold Highlights

Backstage at NYFW for Spring 2012, one of the most striking things I saw (that I really liked) was rose gold strategically placed in the models hair at Peter Som.  The highlights were drastic for the runway so the overall look hinted at a punky edge in the girls otherwise flowing waves.  Of course leave it to a celeb to step out with the look on the first day of Spring, Mad Men Actress, Miss January Jones. "We've been doing the same color for about 8 years so I thought it would be fun to try," commented her colorist Jennifer J., a Wella Professional Celebrity Colorist and Co-Founder of Juan Juan Salons.  "I brought a bunch of different colors to her house and the color was custom blended there.  When it looked perfect, we went for it and the outcome was amazing on her already pastel blonde hair.”

I like them.  I liked them on the runway and I like the way they look on January Jones (although I think hers are more pinkish).  Of course they'll look different on brunettes (it's harder to lift color and may be Fall already by the time you actually get to rose gold), but you can always fake them like they did backstage.  The answer: extensions!  I think I want them!  Yay or nay?

J. Lo's Makeup Artist Gave Me the Scoop On Oscar Day and How To Apply Winged Liner

"I just left Jennifer's house," said J. Lo's makeup artist, Mary Phillips said as I answered up the phone.  Just two days after the Oscars she was following Miss Lopez to American Idol.  Along the way, I was thankful she had time to call me and give the Oscar scoop I was after.   J. Lo's glam squad arrived at her house at noon to begin prepping her for the red carpet. "When we got there she had a breakfast buffet laid out for us and we ate as she tried on a few dress options," Phillips explained.  The songstresses team consisted of Phillips, her hairstlyist, manicurist and two stylists.  "We collaboratively work together all the time and put together one look as a unit," Phillips said.  "In the end, Jennifer makes the decision."  It only to them an hour to get her ready and she left her house around 2:30 to hit the red carpet.

The result? Stunning.  J. Lo at her best.  The look was 60's inspired, but after working with J. Lo for six years, Phillips knew better than to make her skin matte.  What caught my attention was her winged eyeliner.  I spotted this look on the Fall 2012 runways just a few weeks ago and at the Oscars, other leading ladies like  Emma Stone, Angelina Jolie and Zoe Saldana also embraced the trend.

Here's Phillips' winged liner how to:

1.  Draw a line with from the inner corner of your upper lid to the outer making it thicker as you near the middle and extend.  She used L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in Brown on J. Lo.

2. "You want the eye to have a lifting effect," she states.  Create an illusion of lift by drawing upwards by placing your pencil at the outer corner of your eye where your bottom rim ends and using that as a guide to draw upward.  The key is to keep it delicate and light.

3. If you're doing heavy shadow along with the winged liner then just do a nude lip like J. Lo. However, you can also wear winged liner and mascara with a bright, bold lip like Angelina Jolie or Zoe Saldana did.

NYFW Beauty Trend: Matching Lips & Tips

This season one of the biggest trends I've spotted backstage is matching nails and lips, which means it's going to be super hot for fall.  Backstage at Zac Posen where models wore striking, yet classic red lips and nails, I had the chance to catch up with my friend and MAC Makeup Artist,Kerri Blair to chat about the look. "The lip and tip is definitely one of the hottest trends this fashion week so far," commented Blair.

The true red created for the lip at Zac Posen is Cherry Red Lip Pencil and a red lip mix gloss.  To match the lip, the closest nail polish MAC had is a new shade called Flaming Rose, which will be out in the Fall.

"Classic red lips and nails are just as important as a black dress," commented Blair.  "The color looks good on any skin type because it's neutral with a little warmth and a little coolness mixed together."

Coming soon from MAC, (and I can't wait for this) will be matching sets of lipsticks and polishes that further encourage the trend and take the guesswork out.

Get the Look: Kate Beckinsale's Sexy Bohemian Eyes

I think Kate Beckinsale is one of the most beautiful women in the world.  Last night for the Underworld: Awakening premiere in LA she wore an embellished gold Jenny Packham gown and had her handsome husband, Len Wiseman by her side.  Makeup Artist, Molly Stern was inspired by her gown giving her an "elegant meets bohemian look," resulting in lit from within skin with a soft, yet sexy edge.  My favorite part was Kate's eyes and I got the step-by-step from Stern on how to recreate them. To start, using a cream cheek colour brush, Stern used my favorite tinted moisturizer by Laura Mercier in Fawn to enhance her natural glow.  She swiped it along her forehead, cheeks and chin and then blended and dabbled it into her crevices with a triangle sponge.  For an added touch of radiance, Stern highlighted her cheekbones for a nice accent and the bridge of her nose.  Highlighting the center bridge of the nose can help play down any wideness, just stay away from the tip.  On her lips,  Laura Mercier Baby Doll Shimmering Lip Glacé.

Now for the eyes!  To compliment the gold gown, Stern used a combination of violet eyeshadows and a mahogany liner.  Using a flat shadow brush she based Kate's lid up to the crease with  Laura Mercier Luster Eye Colour in African Violet and then deepened the lid at the lash line and up into the crease with a denser shadow brush to deposit more color using a deeper violet shadow.  To bring the shape of Kate's eye up and out, Stern used a thin, pointed liner brush and lined her top and bottom lashes with Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Liner in Mahogany Brown, which was followed by two coats of mascara.

Get Nicole Richie's Golden Globes Hair in 5 Simple Steps

As I mentioned in a previous post, Nicole Richie was one of my absolute favorite looks of the night.  I always love her style and no matter what way she wears them, she has the best bangs!  I still bring a photo of her side bangs to my stylist every time I get them trimmed.  I spoke with her Golden Globes stylist, Jenny Cho for Suave on how to get her red carpet 'do. 1. Start with clean, dry hair and spritz dry shampoo like Suave Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo directly into the roots on the crown of your head and in the front.  Refresh your blowout with your hairdryer and a round brush working the dry shampoo into the hair to create texture.

2. Section off the hair around the crown of your head and tease it to create volume and clip it aside.

3. Use a half boar bristle, half nylon brush to smooth out your hair on the sides and back of your head pulling it back and securing it into a ponytail.

4. Take a side section and wrap it around the ponytail, securing with a bobby pin. Take the opposite side and do the same to cover the elastic.

5. Finally, take the teased crown section that you set aside and lightly smooth it back with a brush over the ponytail.  Secure with bobby pins.

CMA Hair Trend: Southern Blondes with A Twist

Last night the 45th annual Country Music Awards were held in Nashville, TN and while it may be no surprise that Taylor Swift won "Entertainer of the Year," what may surprise you is that she, Carrie Underwood, and Nicole Kidman, are all considered blondes.  I spoke with Wella Professional Colorist, Aura Friedman, to get the scoop on the hair color trends of the 'gals down south. “The beauty of blonde is that the color palette is virtually endless and finding the right blonde to complement an individual’s skin tone and features is the key to making it look natural,” she remarks.

Carrie Underwood who hosted and performed at the CMA's dons a warm, buttery blonde, which instead of washing her out, brings out her features and nicely compliments her skin tone.  While many blondes may be afraid to add a bit of red into their color, Nicole Kidman demonstrates the look well with her strawberry blonde locks.  The southern trend is about stepping away from platinum and warming up a blonde with little bit of golden or peach undertones.

Interested in warming up your blonde?  It's a great look for fall.  Ask your colorist for multi-dimensional color with undertones that suit your skin tone.

Get the Look: Amanda Seyfried, "In Time" Premiere

A few days ago Amanda Seyfried attended the premiere of her new movie, In Time, in LA donning a floral, drop waist Prabal Gurung dress from their Spring 2012 collection, her classic blow out and sultry eyes.  Love her makeup look?  Read on for the how to from her makeup artist Monika Blunder. "Amanda was wearing a very colorful dress with lots of purple and pink shading and I wanted her makeup to reflect some of the same color tones," states Blunder.  "I focused mainly on a strong eye and kept the lip minimal with just a hint of pink."

Amanda's smokey eye was created  with Cle de Peau Beaute's Limited Edition Cream Eye Color in Moon Light n Night Brown.  For depth, Blunder used Night Brown (the darker grey shadow) just on the outter corners of the eyes and added a bit of Moon Light (the sparkly cream shade) on the inner corners to open her eye up.  She then traced her inner top and bottom rims with black liner and smudged it out a bit under the eye.  Three coats of mascara completed the look.

Blunder then used Cle de Pea's Cheek Color Duo in Number 2.  The color was concentrated on her cheeks and highlighter right along her cheekbones for added sheen. To finish, Extra Rich Lipstick in T9 gave her the perfect hint of pink on her lips.

Bethenny Frankel Launches the Skinny Girl Ponytail

There is now such thing as a "Skinny Girl Ponytail," but don't get too excited as it won't make you look thinner.  Bethenny Frankel is expanding her empire yet again by partnering with The Dry Bar, the blow dry bar that I visited last month (see my post here), and adding a pony tail to their blowout menu that's inspired by the one in her skinny girls cocktail logo. "It's set up higher on the head than your average ponytail. It's sleek and has a slight curl at the end for added bounce," commented Alli Webb, Drybar co-founder.  "It's sweet and sophisticated at the same time."

In addition to choosing the Skinny Girl Ponytail when customers get their hair done, they'll be served a complimentary Skinny Girl White Cranberry Cosmo or Margarita to complete the look.

How To Achieve A Flirty Pony Tail

With the spring season comes laid-back clothes and warmer weather, which beg for a hairstyle that coincides with the playful attitude.  A girly, textured ponytail gives off fun, care-free vibes that any girl can embrace. Tresemme Celebrity Stylist, Jenie Syfu, who is credited for making starlettes like Sandra Bullock, Amanda Bynes and Lily Allen’s tresses look red carpet ready gave me the scoop on how to get the look.  Here's how she created the textured ponytail backstage at Whitney Port’s Spring/Summer 2010 Whitney Eve fashion show:

Prep

Apply mousse to damp hair and blow dry upside down using a round brush.  “Blowdrying upside down instantly creates more volume,” commented Syfu.  Try Tresemme 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse ($4.99, drugstore.com).

Curl

Take one to two inch sections of hair and curl using a 1 inch curling iron to create texture.  A great iron, Infiniti by Conair Tourmaline Ceramic Curling Iron, 1” ($11.60, drugstore.com).

Tease

Using a fine-toothed comb, tease the top of the head towards the front of the hairline for volume.

Pull Back

Use your fingers as a brush to pull up your locks into a ponytail towards the crown of your head and secure with an elastic.

Finish

Create even more texture through the top by combing it through with your fingers and mist a light finishing spray over it.  I like Dove Flexible Hold Hairspray ($4.59, drugstore.com).
