Oribe Dishes on J. Lo's W Magazine Shoot

In her hometown of the Bronx, J. Lo shot her latest W magazine cover at Castle Rock in just one day.  Inspired by Janice Dickenson's voluminous blowouts during the 70's, iconic stylist, Oribe, created a classic movie star 'do.  I chatted with him to get the how-to and some behind the scenes info.  What's your relationship like with J. Lo?

I have been working with her for many years.  We’re very good friends.  I respect her very much, and every time I work with her I learn something new.  Each time we work together it’s an incredible collaboration.  It’s always fantastic.

Did J. Lo have any specific hair requests?

She's always very open-minded, and just wants to look beautiful.  That’s pretty much the only rule, to make her look gorgeous.  She's so fantastic to work with.

What are your 5 must have necessitates in your shoot kit?

All of the Oribe Hair Care products, especially Soft, Thick, Grandiose, Curl and Surfcomber.  I also always have my Dry Texturizing Spray, Supershine Light and Impermeable.   My Mason Pearson brush is also always with me.

Did J. Lo specifically like anything you used?

She loves the products and is a big supporter of the brand, and it works great on her hair.  Her hairdresser is amazing and uses the products on her as well.  He does a fantastic job and was on-set as well.  It was a great experience to have that kind of rapport with her personal hair dresser.

Step-by-step:

  1. Apply mousse to damp hair and blowdry with a round brush
  2. Curl your hair all the way around your head and let them cool
  3. Brush through the curls to create waves
  4. Lightly spritz a conditioner like Oribe's Soft Dry Conditioner Spray through the ends to add softness and shine
  5. Finish with hair spray or anti-humidity spray like Oribe's Impermeable Anti-Humidity Spray

This summer I have eight weddings to attend.  Eight!  I'm sure you have your fair share of formal events too, or if you don't, you'll find excuses to cop these styles.  I rounded up my favorite hairstyles from the Golden Globes from top knots to sexy loose waves and everything in between for your viewing pleasure.

A sex kitten blowout with volume.

A glamourous ponytail with face framing pieces.

A texturized top knot.

Old hollywood inspired side swept waves.

Sleek with fringe.

J. Lo's Makeup Artist Gave Me the Scoop On Oscar Day and How To Apply Winged Liner

"I just left Jennifer's house," said J. Lo's makeup artist, Mary Phillips said as I answered up the phone.  Just two days after the Oscars she was following Miss Lopez to American Idol.  Along the way, I was thankful she had time to call me and give the Oscar scoop I was after.   J. Lo's glam squad arrived at her house at noon to begin prepping her for the red carpet. "When we got there she had a breakfast buffet laid out for us and we ate as she tried on a few dress options," Phillips explained.  The songstresses team consisted of Phillips, her hairstlyist, manicurist and two stylists.  "We collaboratively work together all the time and put together one look as a unit," Phillips said.  "In the end, Jennifer makes the decision."  It only to them an hour to get her ready and she left her house around 2:30 to hit the red carpet.

The result? Stunning.  J. Lo at her best.  The look was 60's inspired, but after working with J. Lo for six years, Phillips knew better than to make her skin matte.  What caught my attention was her winged eyeliner.  I spotted this look on the Fall 2012 runways just a few weeks ago and at the Oscars, other leading ladies like  Emma Stone, Angelina Jolie and Zoe Saldana also embraced the trend.

Here's Phillips' winged liner how to:

1.  Draw a line with from the inner corner of your upper lid to the outer making it thicker as you near the middle and extend.  She used L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in Brown on J. Lo.

2. "You want the eye to have a lifting effect," she states.  Create an illusion of lift by drawing upwards by placing your pencil at the outer corner of your eye where your bottom rim ends and using that as a guide to draw upward.  The key is to keep it delicate and light.

3. If you're doing heavy shadow along with the winged liner then just do a nude lip like J. Lo. However, you can also wear winged liner and mascara with a bright, bold lip like Angelina Jolie or Zoe Saldana did.

J. Lo's Big Hair is A "Good Hit"

Have you seen J. Lo's video for her new single Good Hit yet?  Talk about wind blown hair! I got the behind the scenes scoop from her stylist, Oribe, on the shoot on how he created tons of va va va volume! "It's lots of hair, lots of volume and lots of wind so we went for a very full style that would hold up and turn the fans on,"  Oribe commented.  He used extensions and hair pieces to build her locks and help transform her look throughout the shoot.  His key styling product – Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray.  He spritzed it all over blow dried hair, concentrating on the roots and brushed it out to achieve more body.

I Got Cozy At Lincoln Center for the First Time Backstage at Farah Angsana

My first trip to Fashion Week's new home at Lincoln Center was for the Farah Angsana show.  Skeptical at first, I felt more welcomed than I thought I would as I pulled up in a cab on the upper west side to fashionistas gathering around the fountain.  It felt like home.  Bye, bye Bryant Park, everyone was here. Nineteen models were made up with soft metallic lids and romantic curls. "Farah's obsessed with J.Lo," commented Gregg Hubbard the lead makeup artist for Cristo. "Everything needs to be about the J.Lo glow!"  And in a way, it was – the eyes at least.  The bronzed eye was created with Bobbi Brown Cream Shadow in Gold Stone, which is a great base and layerable as a shadow.  The lip? A coral gloss.

It was great to see a Rita Hazan stylist backstage whipping up... some haute hair! Eddie Ngai created three romantic looks for the girls that consisted of straight with bounce, a structured updo and and soft and sexy.  Soft and full texture is key to the romantic theme.

Dashing Diva's lead manicurist Pattie Yankee did full mani's and pedi's on the ladies with No More Alimony, a shiny nude metallic shade.  One model fell asleep while getting her hair done at the same time of her mani and pedi!
