Insane Beauty Facts You Need to Know Now

Who doesn’t love a good fun fact?  Beauty writers get to hear a lot of them, and we admit, some are more fun than others. Here are our current favorites that we picked up at recent beauty events.

There's one St. Tropez self-tanning product sold every 15 seconds, and one St. Tropez spray tan performed every minute.

In America, we go buckwild over Black Friday sales. Meanwhile, our fancier British counterparts just can’t get enough of St. Tropez Self Tanner.  Their In Shower Self-Tanner is definitely in the running for product of the summer, as it sold out almost immediately when it was first sold in the UK, and later vanished from US Sephora shelves in 24 hours (don’t worry, they’re back in stock...for now).

You can pick up harmful infrared rays through cooking.

According to Dr. Joshua Zeichner, Director of Cosmetic and Clinical Research in Dermatologist at Mt. Sinai Hospital, laboring over a hot stove all day can have some serious consequences for your skin. The heat your stovetop emits can be transferred onto your skin via infrared rays. But avid cookers need not fear: he recommends SkinMedica’s Total Defense + Repair Broad Sunscreen to reverse any effects of infrared rays.

Half of American women suffer from chronic dry skin.

Okay, so this might not be a fun fact, but it’s pretty mind-blowing. Since it’s not the most glamorous topic in the world, chronic dry skin carries a little bit of a stigma with it. No one really likes to talk about it, but if it affects 50% of American women, it should be brought to light. Does your itchiness keep you up at night? Can you not wear your favorite sweater because it literally rubs you the wrong way? Luckily, if you’re part of that half, he folks at Curel have got you—come October, they’re debuting a cooling spray that’s eczema-safe and proven to kick your dry skin to the curb.
