One of my favorite parts of my job is interviewing people I admire. If you've ever stepped into my apartment, you'd know that designer, Jonathan Adler, is among them. Here, he dishes on the best advice he's ever gotten and how it affected his success as well as his dream partnership.
If you were to set a daily intention, what would it be?
I want every day to be full of style, craft, and joy.
Welcome to the beauty space! Tell me about your recent partnership with Ponds. What really excited you about it?
POND’s is an iconic American brand, and I was so excited to be able to add some of my favorite colors and patterns to a true classic. It’s part of this country’s domestic landscape. My grandmother used POND’s, my mother used POND’s, and the gals in my office use POND’s – and now they can all use POND’s Wet Cleansing Towelettes in a limited edition vanity case designed bymoi.
What inspires you?
I’m fortunate to live in New York, surrounded by the best food, shops, and people. I always keep my ears, eyes, and mind wide open.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten and who was it from?
My pottery teacher in college told me I had no talent and I should move to New York and be a lawyer. It was the best advice I never took. Every creative person needs a naysayer to rebel against.
Do you have a dream project or partnership?
I’d love to design a car, inside and out.
What does your skincare regimen look like? Any favorite products?
I keep it simple – a splash of whatever potion my hubby Simon has brought home from Barneys.
You seem to have done it all in the design space. What are you most grateful for?
I’m grateful for it all! I’m so lucky to spend every day making what I want to make, surrounded by fun, creative, hilarious people.
