The New Year Brings the Best for BeautySweetSpot

Happy New Year!  Just yesterday I began kicking off the year back in my NYC apartment after spending two weeks relaxing at home in Jersey.  It feels good to be back!  Time to grind!  Of course, I'm going to hit on some of my New Year's resolutions in this post, but trust me, they affect you too! How you ask?  Because I write about my interests and passions and one of them is working out... this is my year for toning the booty (and the whole lower half for that matter)!  So of course you should expect to find some tips and tricks on how to get in the best shape for your body time from some top personal trainers on BeautySweetSpot.

Two very popular features from the past that will be reappearing in 2011 are "Man of the Week" and "VIP Pass to the Industry."  For those of you who aren't familiar, I used to feature a different man each week and give you a peek into their medicine cabinets and fantasies.  This year, I'm going to be featuring a "Man of the Moment" and featuring them one or two times per month instead.  Know a man who may be good for the site?  Write in and nominate one!  These are regular guys off the street.  There are two qualifications:  they have to be sexy and successful.

"VIP Pass to the Industry" gives you a sneak peek behind the scenes of what it's really like to be a blogger, editor at a magazine or publicist in beauty or fashion.  I feel like there are so many movies made and books written on the industry that don't really give a fair glimpse.  Here, you can hear from the girls who are doing the jobs every day on what their days are like, perks and advice on how to get in.

Also on the site I'll be doing a lot more YouTube product reviews and such.  Of course, everything else you love will stay the same or just keep getting better with the opportunities I'm given.  I wish you all a happy, healthy and successful year.  Cheers!

Man of the Week

Ladies, meet Michael, a 25 year New Yorker who works in bond sales.  His grooming habits consists of a cold beer, head massage and a hair cut.  Sounds like this guy likes to be pampered as much as he likes to party. What’s in your medicine cabinet?

Well, not medicine.  Pretty simple stuff… Old Spice shaving cream & deodorant, Listerine, hair gel.  I also have two colognes: Burberry Brit and Chrome Azzaro.  I get next to no compliments when I wear the Brit, but Chrome has attracted any and all types of women from friends to randoms to even college professors.  It’s great.

What product can’t you live without and why?

That’s pretty easy.  Gel would be tough, but if a guy didn’t have shaving cream we’d all look pretty dirty.  Except for my friends that are still growing peach fuzz.

How would you describe your grooming habits?

I shower regularly if that’s what you mean.  (Irish Spring soap for those wondering.)  If you mean down there, no more than once or twice a week.  Once regularly, but if there’s a party at a bar or something I’ll probably do it twice just to make sure.

I get my haircut about once a month (free plug: Esquires of Wall St. – 14 Wall St. NY, NY).  It sounds gaudy and over-the-top I know, but it’s the best barber shop out there.  Free cold beer, hot towel, and a head massage (don’t knock it till you try it fellas) at a cheap price.  For me, keeping your hair clean-cut goes a long way.

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure?

No I haven’t.  I’m not really sure why any guy would, but maybe I just don’t know.  If there was a girl that I thought was cute that wanted to take me I wouldn’t say no.  I’d like to think I’ll try everything once.

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why?  More importantly, what would you do?

Well that depends on what you mean by “night”.  A “night” would probably be with Bar Refaeli.  Prettiest girl in the game.  I would take her on a private jet and fly west, time zone to time zone, so the night lasted twice as long.  And if I were awarded this night, my product I can’t live without (from question #2) would change to Trojan Extended Pleasure Condoms.  Because let’s be honest.  Bar Refaeli.

Other than that, I want to have dinner with Barack Obama.  He’s a guy that really knows how to hone his talents.  I could probably learn a lot from him.

What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?

Her style.  A pretty girl is a dime a dozen in New York.  We all have our type and I notice a girl’s style right away.  If I like it, I’m interested.  If not, I move on to the next one.

Do you prefer a woman au naturel or all made up?

I think the right answer is au naturel.  I personally like it when girls get all done up.  There is a difference between a girl who is pretty and a girl who is hot.  Girls who are hot can get all made up and make you look twice.  And you gotta love that.

How about down there?

If I’m doing it at least once a week, she better be too.

When it comes to a woman’s beauty what’s your sweet spot?

A girl’s smile.  I’m not elaborating on that because I can’t really describe what it is that I like about a girl’s smile.  I just know there are very few things that can make a guy weak and for me, that is one of them.

Man of the Week

Ladies, meet Alex, a 20 year old salesman from Brooklyn, NY. Let's take a peek into his medicine cabinet... What’s in your medicine cabinet?

Colgate toothpaste, Old Spice deodorant, Rusk straightening hair cream

What product can’t you live without and why?

I need conditioner or hair cream since without it my hair can get really poofy.

How would you describe your grooming habits?

Pretty normal. I shower everyday, but I am usually a bit scruffy since I don’t shave often.

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure?

No I have not, because I always thought of that as a woman’s thing.

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why?  More importantly, what would you do?

Either I would spend all my money on a date with Zooey Deschanel or smoke blunts with Dave Chappelle. She is extremely cute and he is extremely funny, I just can’t choose.

What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?

I usually notice if I am being noticed.

Do you prefer a woman au naturel or all made up?

I like natural much more than made up and plastered on, but I think eye liner and mascara are always good.

How about down there?

Even having the Amazon down there isn’t a deal-breaker, but less is more and the least is best.

When it comes to a woman’s beauty what’s your sweet spot?

I’m a sucker for a pretty face

Man of the Week

Ladies, meet Nick, 24 and single from Berkeley Heights, NJ. He's an Assistant Property Manager by day and apparently a huge flirt by night.  He may just win Man of the Year right off the bat, read on and you'll see why. Yes, I'm blushing! What’s in your medicine cabinet?

Nothing! (I have a sister and she rules the bathroom). But if I could put my products in the cabinet I would have all the shit that’s randomly scattered around my room: Deodorant, Shaving Cream, Face Scrub, Floss, Toothpaste, Hair gel, Vitamins, etc… Just the basics.  My favorite brands though would be: Old Spice Deodorant and Garnier “Surf Hair”.

What product can’t you live without and why?

Well considering every night before I leave I brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack; my favorite product would definitely be Jack Daniel’s (I mean come on, once I leave for the night, I ain't coming back).  But besides that, my other choices would be my deodorant, toothpaste, and body wash.

How would you describe your grooming habits?

I would say that I have pretty good grooming habits.  When it comes to cleaning up I basically have the same routine every day: After I wake up and eat I will shave, floss, shower (about 20 min…clean everything), brush my teeth, use mouth wash, q-tip, put on deodorant and cut my nails if they need it.  I get my hair cut when it needs it.  I don’t have a set schedule (like every two weeks)… And on a side note I wash my hands every time after I go to the bathroom.  It drives me crazy when people don’t.

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure? Why or why not?

I’m not going to lie, YES I got a pedicure once.  Me and my ex were out shopping together and she wanted to stop to get one.  So instead of leaving her alone I went in with her to keep her company and see what the hell they actually do.  The employees let me sit in the massage chair next to her, which was a mistake because they straight up suckered me into getting one.  It might have been one of the most unmanly things I’ve ever done but the shit they did to my calves was more than worth it.  Btw if you’re wondering, No I did not get nail polish when they asked me what color I wanted.

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why?  More importantly, what would you do?

This may possibly be the easiest question on the questionnaire.  If I could have one night with any celebrity it would definitely be Americas best beauty blogger – Jeannine Morris!  Not only does she have the greatest blogs on Beauty but she backs it up with her own natural beauty and style!  To answer the question “what would we do” is something I’ll leave up to her to decide.

What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?

Her eyes and her teeth… don’t know why that’s just how it happens.

Do you prefer a woman au naturel or all made up?  How come?

First off, beauty is on the inside… but if I had to choose… I love a woman who is all natural!  Any girl can get all done up to look good and I’m sure Jeannine has some great tips for girls to do so.  But for me I just like a girl who is comfortable being who she is.  Of course using make-up works to a girl’s advantage when trying to meet a guy and going out for the night but there comes a point when she just needs be herself… I’ve known girls who never let their boyfriends see them with out their make-up on.  To me that’s just being fake and probably really annoying when it comes to getting out f the house to do things together.  There’s nothing sexier then waking up next to a woman and still finding her just as beautiful as she was the night before.

How about down there?

Does this question pertain to the guy or the girl?  If its for me then let me touch on each one of the styles: Apparently going completely bare can make you look a bigger, but for me I rather not look like I’m 12 years old and personally I think I’m big enough either way.  Landing strips and designs can be cool but are just too much time.  Plus, with some of the designs I would draw, the girl would probably be more interested in them than me.  I personally like neatly groomed- not to much work, its comfortable, and looks good.  I would never do “el natural”! It probably will make it look smaller, sweat more, is uncomfortable, and is just straight up unflattering.  If it’s for a girl, well then that’s totally a different issue.  Definitely completely bare… just makes it look cuter… if it was el natural, I would probably throw-up.

When it comes to a woman’s beauty what’s your sweet spot?

Tough question…. I love women! And every girl has something different that turns me on to them.  Obviously looks can mean a lot but personally I don’t think they are everything when it comes to how “beautiful” you think a woman is.  It isn’t only about the looks, it’s also about how a girl presents herself and handles herself around you.  Looks will draw me to a woman but her personality and the way she acts accelerates how beautiful I think she is.

Man of the Week

Ladies, meet this cutie, Jennaro, 26 and single from Hoboken, NJ.  He's a marketing manager and real estate investor who has quite a theory about grooming "down there."  But hey, I asked!  TMI? You be the judge! What’s in your medicine cabinet?

My medicine cabinet is fairly simple. I am Italian so I have Crew hair products, but I don’t spend an hour doing my hair. I use Neutrogena face wash, Gillette Fusion razors, Nivea face cream, Degree deodorant, Dove soap and Crest Pro Health toothpaste. We can’t forget the cologne: Burberry Touch, Jean Paul Gaultier, and my favorite - Chanel Platinum!

What product can’t you live without and why?

My iPhone? If not, I would have to say my annoying contacts, which shall be obsolete very soon as I am looking into Lasic correction surgery.

How would you describe your grooming habits?

I hate letting my hair get too long, so I get a fresh cut every two weeks. My facial hair is usually kept well groomed and stylish, chest hair and other areas I use the trimmer to keep them attractive. You never know who you are going to meet and when, so I insist on looking fresh at all times.

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure? Why or why not?

No! When I think about these practices I always have a preconceived notion that they are strictly for women. However, I have heard from a number of males that they are amazing. I think I can live without manicures and pedicures, simply service these areas myself.

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why? More importantly, what would you do?

These questions are always entertaining. If I could have one night with any celebrity I would choose Megan Fox. She is a young rising star that has already made her mark in hit feature films including Transformers I & II. She seems to be down to earth, have high energy and she is smoking hot. As for planning the night, I am sure there is not much that could impress someone of her status. So we would do a quiet Italian dinner in Little Italy where we could enjoy ourselves and talk without a lot of attention. Afterwards hit a wine/beer bar for a couple of drinks. Next, I would take her to see a personal friend and celebrity tattoo artist from Starlight Tattoos, since I know she is fascinated with tattoos.

What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?

I believe men are afraid to admit that they first look at a woman’s body. If they are attracted to her physically then they will engage her in a conversation. It is in this conversation that I notice a woman’s smile and how she carries herself.

Do you prefer a woman au naturel or all made up?

I prefer a woman au naturel. I can understand and appreciate a minimal amount of makeup. However, if the situation should arise where we are waking up next to each other, I don’t want to see a different person.

How about down there?

I personally prefer completely bare but do not mind a landing strip or neatly groomed. Why you ask, three reasons. First, because Generation X and Generation Y (millennials) have been exposed to modern pornography where the women are mostly bare contributing to the ideology that el natural is trashy or unattractive. Previously (‘70s & ‘80s), it was perfectly acceptable to be el natural as seen in the pornography of that time. Second, when performing oral sex on a woman, having her clean shaven is beneficial for both sexes. Third, I am a very visual person so I like to look at the woman’s body when being intimate.

When it comes to a woman’s beauty what’s your sweet spot?

I have always been attracted to a woman who has amazing legs (smooth and clean shaven), her stomach (firm and flat) and her ass. Not necessarily in that specific order.

Man of the Week

This weeks man of the week, Dhaval,24, from Piscataway, NJ was nominated by my sister, who's in PA school. He tutors her in her studies and will be graduating as a Physicians Assistant from UMDNJ this year.  Anyone need a physical?

What’s in your medicine cabinet?

I have the typical items a man should have in his medicine cabinet. Face/body lotions by Lubriderm, hair putty of multiple types, Gillette fusion razor, Gillette shaving gel, Old Spice deodorant, tooth brush, Colgate tooth paste, and Listerine mouth wash.

What product can’t you live without and why?

Besides my hair products and grooming supplies, I must say I can’t live without a few of my favorite colognes. Over the years, I have realized girls enjoy being close to a good smelling guy as much as guys enjoy a good scent on a girl. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you what to wear, that’s my secret. I love hearing “Wow you smell amazing.”

How would you describe your grooming habits?

My grooming habits are something I try to pay attention to closely. Shaving multiple times a week, I like the clean look with no facial hair. Haircuts at least 2-3x a month are a must.

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure? Why or why not?

I have gotten a manicure and a pedicure numerous times. Its essential prior to every vacation and during the summer months, but that doesn’t mean your hands and feet should have fungus growing during the winter months.

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why? More importantly, what would you do?

Emmanuelle Chriqui from Entourage, I think she’s absolutely gorgeous with an amazing smile and natural beauty. If I were to describe my dream girl it would be her. I enjoy style and she has a lot of it!

If I had one night with her it would take place in Miami, Florida. The night would consist of a candle light dinner on a huge yacht with just the two of us and her favorite band providing music to dance the night away.

What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?

Almost every guy turns his head when he sees a “hott body.” Besides that, exotic eyes and gorgeous smiles are what sweep me off my feet initially.

Do you prefer a woman au natural or all made up?

I prefer women to be all natural! Nothing is better than a woman who is confident in herself and does not need a ton of make up to make herself look good.

How about down there?

Completely bare or a landing strip is what I look forward to. I take the time to groom myself so why shouldn’t you? El natural is a definite no go!

When it comes to a woman’s beauty what’s your sweet spot?

A confident, intelligent, goal orientated women, with style, class, and beauty is what will win me over!

Man of the Week

Even though I love to feature men from all over the country, I always get excited when New Yorkers are nominated.  Meet Jon, 27, a trader originally from Brooklyn, NY, but currently resides in Harrison, NY.  He describes his grooming habits as "caveman-esque," which is a first for BeautySweetSpot! Eeek!  Thankfully, it sounds (and looks) like his girlfriend keeps him in check.

What’s in your medicine cabinet?

Nivea after Shave, J&J baby powder, AXE deodorant and shave gel

What product can’t you live without and why?

Nothing in my medicine cabinet is that crucial.  Its more like what product my girlfriend can’t live without me having and that would be deodorant (Ya, I smell at times, I’m a man and I’m supposed to have a musk).

How would you describe your grooming habits?

Caveman-esque, I clean myself daily and shave when it’s needed. Chances are you wont get much more then that out of me day to day.

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure? Why or why not?

No and honestly do I really need to explain why a man should not be worried about things like his mani/pedi?

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why? More importantly, what would you do?

Homer Simpson – Why?!  Why not, how awesome would it be to actually spend one night in The Simpsons household with Homer and the family?  I could only imagine what kind of hijinx would arise in that 24hr period.  The one thing I could hope to do would be eat one of those donuts, with the pink frosting he is always eating, those look good.

What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?

Eyes, if you pay attention you can learn a lot about someone just by looking them square in the face.

Do you prefer a woman au natural or all made up?

Natural beauty the way the good lord made her.

How about down there?

Keep it clean, this is America, if you want to grow “a field of dreams”, take it else where.

When it comes to a woman’s beauty what’s your sweet spot?

Personality, all the good looks in the world die out hard and fast if she doesn’t have a sense of humor or the ability to hold an intelligent conversation.

Man of the Week

Ladies, meet Michael Todd, 24, a single model and actor from Miami, FL who just co-founded a cosmetic line, Michael Todd Cosmetics.

What's in your medicine cabinet?

Aspirin (to recover from those every now and then long nights), SPF 15 Sunblock (I go to the beach a lot), Aloe-Vera Moisturizing Lotion (for when I forget to put on sunblock), Goldbond Powder (keeps "everything" fresh all day & night)..I use my own Michael Todd brand most of the time, but there are others.....

What product can't you live without and why?

Glue'd hair gel...i have really naturally thick curly hair that loves to frizz like crazy if I don't tame it with the gel! I also especially like Uncomman, the man's fragrance from my cosmetic line.

How would you describe your grooming habits?

As a single model and actor, as well as living in Miami you never know when you the clothes are coming off, so I'm shaved, trimmed and skimmed at all times.

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure? Why or why not?

No pedicure, but I had my first manicure a week ago...It might just have to become a regular thing. A manicure is like a pair of fine shoes, women notice.

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why? More importantly, what would you do?

Wow! The crop of hot female celebrities today makes it a difficult pick. But Meghan Fox stands out for me, but I've always had my eye on Jessica Alba too .... A helicopter out past the three mile limit to a yacht for a romantic dinner at sundown. That works. I'm an actor so reading lines together would be fun, I could be Brando in Streetcar Named Desire and she could be my Stella. haha!

What's the first thing you notice about a woman?

Physically, a man can take in a woman at a glance. We are just programmed that way. For some you're drawn to the face, others it's the body. Then it's a particular feature. Her hair, or eyes, or even a smile. On the body, some men like the booty, for others its upstairs. For me, I love it all. Especially if she is fit and toned. That really draws me in.

Do you prefer a woman au naturel or all made up?

I prefer a girl who is made up which is why I started my own cosmetics company Michael Todd Cosmetics.

How about down there?

I think the Brazilian landing strip is the best...something sexy and exotic about it...but bare or neatly groomed is amazing too!

When it comes to a woman's beauty what's your sweet spot?

I definitely have a soft spot for exotic looking beauties.

Man of the Week

Ladies, meet Neal, a 28 year old from Bergen County, NJ who's a teacher by day and red carpet reporter by night. Obsessed with celebrity, Sex and the City and NYC, he's the type of guy any girl would want as their BFF (even Wendy Williams!). To learn more about him check out his website.

What’s in your medicine cabinet?

The basics: Edge Sensitive Skin Shaving Cream, Jergens Ultra Healing Lotion (to keep skin looking good -nothing DIRTY people!) Clinique Spot Healing Gel (for those stressful days and nights), CVS SPF 45+ Sunscreen (Cheap but effective!), and Crest Pro-Health Enamel Shield Mouthwash

What product can’t you live without and why?

HAIR GEL!!! It's the difference between my hair looking like 1980's Michael Jackson and 1990's Michael Jackson.

How would you describe your grooming habits?

I keep myself clean shaven..all over ha ha! I am mainly a smooth guy so luckily there's not too much manscaping to do!  Especially doing red carpets, I always try to wear something stylish, professional, and look good!  You always want to impress!

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure? Why or why not?

I have not but by the time you read this you never know!  The thought of someone washing my feet for money is definitely not a turn on!  Although come to think of it it does sound very relaxing.  Manicures, I never thought about.

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why? More importantly, what would you do?

I have two:  Angelina Jolie and Kathy Griffin.  Angelina is beautiful (those lips!), very articulate, and a phenomenal philanthropist.  I could picture going out to a secluded bar, drinking wine.  She seems the type that would want to get to know someone and not just talk about herself.  After we would head over to a Food Bank in the city and help out people less fortunate than us.  Brad who?

I like Kathy Griffin because she speaks her mind and she has a great sense of humor.  I think sometimes humor is underrated and not only is she witty and sharp she knows how to make it look good!  I would love to go backstage and see her creative process of how she comes up with her material.

What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?

I would say with anything, the eyes and the smile. "The eyes are the doorway to a person's soul." So true. You can see a lot of warmth just in the eyes.  Same with the smile.  Doing a lot of events, it's easy to spot who's fake very quickly.  Someone who can display beauty not just by being gorgeous outside but I can feel that inner connection with their eyes and smiles gets a high grade in my book.

Do you prefer a woman au naturel or all made up? How come?

Living in Jersey and having gone to school in Staten Island -100% au natural!  I have seen too many beautiful girls cake on the makeup.  It's like you wake up with her the next morning and she's a completely different person!  There's nothing wrong with "less is more."  That way you can see their real beauty.  Don't get me wrong- nothing wrong with makeup in moderation!

 How about down there?

Landing strips are good because you definitely know where to land.  Well you definitely don't want a forrest, because your landing will be completely obscured!  For me as long as it's nicely groomed, bare or well-maintained you won't hear me complaining.

When it comes to a woman’s beauty what’s your sweet spot?

Aside from a woman who is well put together, a woman who has a great sense of humor is a sweet spot.  You have to be able to laugh and someone that will laugh with you.  Outer beauty can fade (sadly) so it's always good to have someone who is a genuine person in the inside (cliche I know but true!)

Man of the Week

Ladies, meet Mike, a 27 year-old attorney from Edison, NJ.  This Italian Stallion's grooming habits are pretty low-maintence, but he does have well groomed nails thanks to the "magic shine buffer" sold at the mall.

What’s in your medicine cabinet?

My medicine cabinet has the standard items one would expect including body soap, shampoo, face wash, hair gel, and various colognes. I wouldn't say that I use one particular brand. I like to try new brands. I just recently switched from gel deodorant to spray and I think I will stick with the spray.

What product can’t you live without and why?

I would say the product I can't live without is hair gel. If I went without gel my hair would be crazy. Recently I have been using Studio by L'Oreal. I like it because it holds throughout the day and doesn't make my hair too hard.

How would you describe your grooming habits?

My grooming habits are fairly normal I would say. I shower and shave daily. I try to get a hair cut every three weeks. Everything else is done on an as needed basis.

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure? Why or why not?

No, I have never gotten a manicure or a pedicure. To be completely honest with you, I didn't know that men did this until a couple of year ago. I guess the reason I have not gone, and most likely will not go, is that I just cannot picture myself sitting in a salon getting a manicure and/or pedicure.

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why?  More importantly, what would you do?

If I could spend one night with a celebrity it would have to be Giada De Laurentiis. She just seems like the perfect woman. As far as what we woul do I would want to cook a meal together with her, eat it outdoors somewhere, and drink wine all night.

What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?

The first thing I notice about a woman are her eyes. You can tell a lot about a person from their eyes or the way they look at you. Sometimes the eyes can also tell you what kind of person she is.

Do you prefer a woman au naturel or all made up?

This question would depend on where we were going. I like a woman who enjoys getting all dressed and made up for a night out, but I also want someone that feels comfortable enough to go au naturel and just watch a movie in jeans and a sweatshirt.

How about down there?

Like I said earlier, I consider my grooming habits pretty standard for a man. Everything that needs to be done is done. I think that a woman should to the same. Saying this, I prefer if a woman is completely bare or neatly groomed down there.

When it comes to a woman’s beauty what’s your sweet spot?

When it comes to a woman's beaty my sweet spots are her eyes and her confidence. A lot of a woman's beauty comes from how she carries herself.
