Red Carpet Hair Secret

There's a new winner in Hollywood and it's not an actor or actress... it's a volumizer from Liqwd.  It may not have taken home any Golden Globes, Oscars or Grammys itself, but the starlettes who have been swearing by have looked flawless on the red carpets and if they won, they probably would have thanked Liqwd in their speeches. Cameron Diaz and Vera Farmiga's stylists both used the Liqwd Volumizer Catalyst on the nominees before the Oscars last week.  "It's the greatest product for fine hair," stated Lona Vigi, Diaz's stylist.  It really helps lift the roots for a great blow out or volumized updo.

The technology behind the volumizing tactics in this product is super advanced.  Unlike other products that leave build up on each strand to make them appear fuller and thicker, this volumizer infuses your hair with moisture that makes each individual strand swell and separate.

You can purchase Liqwd Volumizer Catalyst, $28, here.

Conquer the Red Lip

Afraid to take the risk of going red?  Don't be! Tackle the hurdle by making sure you consider the hue and consistency of the lip color before applying and you'll look as flawless as Sandra Bullock at the Oscars. Above all, the red lip is an accessory and should be treated as such.  Here are a few tips to rock this glamorous statement: 1)   Texture : Choose a creamy lipstick over matte because they tend to be more moisturizing.  Avoid mattes especially if you tend to have dry lips.

2)   Shade : Consider the season, your outfit, skin tone, and your mood!  If you have fair skin, choose a product with cool, blue undertones, whereas orangey-reds look better on olive complexions.

3)   Saturation : Very very red…or sheer with a hint of red…or somewhere in between?  Depending on how many eyes you want on you when you walk in the room, you can adjust the intensity of your lip color.

4)   The rest of your makeup : A cardinal rule of makeup is to focus on one feature and one feature only.  Fire engine red lip?  Skip the blue eyeliner.  Hot pink blush?  Forget the purple mascara.  Your features should not clash – they should complement each other.  If you're doing a red lip, keep the rest simple.

5)   Time/Place/Outfit . At the mall with jeans and a t-shirt, your best bet would be to sport a red-tinted lip balm.  In a ball gown at the opera, you can up the ante and go for a full-blown deep red.  Always make sure your version of the red lip is appropriate for the setting.

Battle Over Man Boobs

Twilight star, Kellan Lutz, is sexing it up as Calvin Klein's latest muse for the launch of Calvin Klein X Underwear. Thank you Mr. Klein. Never before have I looked at Kellan as eye candy until I saw him stripped down.  We can all thank his Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson for stealing all of the attention thus far. Since the photo shoot, it was overheard by E! that Mr. Pattinson is jealous of Kellan's man boobs!  I would not put the name Kellan Lutz and the words "man boobs" in the same sentence.  However, I don't blame him for being jealous of that chest!

Oscar Party & Dove Giveaway

Last night to celebrate the Oscars I hosted a Red Carpet inspired party sponsored by Dove. Starting at the beginning of E!'s red carpet coverage promptly at 6pm, ten of my good friends piled into my tiny NYC apartment and we had our own version of Fashion Police in my living room. Overheard at the party:

"Obsessed with Rachel McAdams!  Dress, hair, everything!"

"Zoe Saldana looks like a purple monster!  The bottom of her dress looks like hair scrunchies!  Tragedy!"

"Julianna's boobs have to be fake and Ryan Seacrest looks like a frat boy."

"Dove is the only thing that touches my face and my body."

"Richard Gere should go for the buzz cut."

Thank you Dove for supplying me with everything needed to make this party a success! My friend Crystal who owns Tasty Morsels Bakery even made branded Dove cookies that had a gold foil dove in the center.

Dove Giveaway!

Award Winning Sandra Bullock

This Monday's Muse is Sandra Bullock as she was by far one of the Oscar's best dressed on the red carpet this year in a Marchesa gown and ended up taking home an Oscar for "Best Actress" for her role in The Blind Side. Bullock's smooth strands were blown out by Fekkai, who wanted to create a simple, sleek style to compliment her elegant dress. Chanel makeup artist, Angela Levin, created a modern Hollywood look by keeping her skin dewey, coating the lashes with three layers of mascara and popping the lip with Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Color in Paris.

After 20 years of acting, this well deserved award opened up many doors for Bullock.

Jessica Stam for Rachel Roy

Today's Monday's Muse is Jessica Stam. The Canadian top model has been enlisted to design for Rachel Roy's diffusion line, which will premiere this fall during New York Fashion Week and launch in October.  The collection will include a pair of jeans, handbag and a cardigan.

"Fashion is something I grew up surrounded by, so now that I'm putting pen to paper the ideas are flying out," Stam remarked.  WWD reports that social media will play a big role in the launch of the collection.  Flipcams and twit pics included.

Monday's Muse

This Monday's Muse is Robert Verdi. Last week during New York Fashion Week, I had the pleasure of going to Robert Verdi's Luxe Laboratory and chatting with the celebrity stylist, turned brand himself about his fabulous life and brand new show on Logo, "The Robert Verdi Show, Starring Robert Verdi!"

As soon as I began my career in the beauty industry I met Robert Verdi and was immediately inspired by his passion and drive. This was the first time I saw him since I began my new freelance career. Therefore I took his words of advice to heart, "Be opportunistic, grateful and let it happen."

Check out my interview with Robert Verdi about his new show, dressing Kathy Griffin for the Golden Globes and the hottest things to look for in fashion for fall 2010.

"The City" Attends NYFW

Yesterday I caught the stars of MTV's The City at the Ports1961 show. Olivia Palermo sitting in front row and Whitney Port sitting with BFF, Roxy Olin, in third. Rumor has it the cast will be at several shows through out fashion week. The question is:  Do they deserve to be there?

Overheard on the Runway:

"They're famous for doing nothing."

"Papparazi should be photographing me if they're photographing them."

"I wish I could have the VIP access they have, it's not like they're famous."

Check out the Ports1961 show:

Monday's Muse

This Monday's Muse is Kathy Griffin.

Nominated for a Grammy for a second year in a row, the comedian looked fab on the red carpet last night. Obviously some credit is owed to all of her plastic surgery, a nose job and a ton of lipo, but she spilled some of her other secrets to E! personality Guliana Rancic.

"It's frustration and starvation," Griffin blamed for her thin figure.  As far as her breasts, "They're real!  I'm not pulling a Montag."  So maybe she hasn't had 10 plastic surgery procedures in one day, but I definitely think she's close to having ten in her lifetime!

Either way, Ms. Griffin was looking fantastic and credited her style to Mr. Robert Verdi, who I love.  Way to work the carpet lady!

Backstage Interview with Matthew Rhys

Backstage at the International Emmy Awards I got Matthew Rhys of "Brothers and Sisters" to dish about ladies, his grooming habits and his date for the after party.

Adorably handsome in person, with an irresistible Welsh accent, I was completely unprepared to talk to him and have to admit, a little star struck.  Mr. Rhys claims to be "low-maintenance" when it comes to grooming and uses any kind of hair wax that he receives in gift bags.

Although he shared he's single and is attracted to humor, I'm not so sure he's straight... I've heard rumors that he was gay before, but he's also been linked to some of Hollywood's sexiest ladies.  However, he told me his date for the Emmy after party was a male friend of his from the UK.  Sorry ladies!

International Emmy Awards: Star Secrets

On Monday, November 23rd, the 37th International Emmy Awards were held at the Hilton Hotel in NYC and I was lucky enough to cover the red carpet and press room with Paul Baranda of BeyondBeautyBasics.  British comedian, Graham Norton, hosted the event and many American phenomenons presented the awards such as: Ed Westwick (yes, Chuck Bass), Alexa Chung of MTV, Barbara Walters, Henry Kissinger, Matthew Rhys, Moby and Rachel Roy.  While out on the red carpet, I scored some beauty tips from some of the most stunning starlettes of the evening.

Presenter, Juliana Paes, a Brazilian actress and model, was quite a hit.  Her dynamic personality, gorge satin, form fitting, one-shouldered dress and Brazilian curves demanded attention. Her beauty secret? "Lots of water." Check out my quick interview with her live from the red carpet.

Best Actress Nominee for her role in "In the Wolf," Angel Locsin, wore a dress by a Filipino designer, which was draped in 6 kilos of Swarovski crystals. That's 13lbs! Her biggest beauty tips were to, "sleep well and always, always remove your makeup." Locsin was such a sweet heart to speak with. You can watch my interview with her here.

Nickelodeon actress, Keke Palmer, was also presenting, wearing a black D&G cocktail dress with D&G accessories paired with a fab pair of Christian Louboutin stilettos.  "Always wash your makeup off before you go to bed," was the beauty tip she giggled about.  She had dynamic energy and was dressed to the nines.  Watch Keke spill her secrets on my YouTube channel.
