Haute Hue: Red, Yay or Nay?

First Scarlett Johansson then Blake Lively... it seems our favorite blondes are trading in their signature locks for strawberry-hinted reddish hues. Blake's excuse?  She wanted to feel like the character she was playing for her new role in the movie Hick.  Makes sense to me and even though I like her better as a blonde I think she nicely pulls off this color too.

I remember when Scarlett dyed her hair red for her role in Iron Man 2 back in 2009.  I liked it then, but it was also a deeper red and her hair was longer so it was an overall sexier look.  Now, I think her short hair looks better as a blonde.

Helena Christensen Talks Boundless Beauty with Silhouette

This week I attended an event for Silhouette eye wear with their Spokesmodel, Helena Christensen.  Besides having a Q&A with Helena (yes, we're on a first name basis), I'm super excited about getting fit for my first pair of Silhouettes. Unlike eye wear companies, Silhouette is 100% dedicated to creating solely rimless styles.  They customizes the glasses according to your brow line, eye color, skin tone and face shape.  Even though they're completely rimless, you have the option of adding a bit of personality to the sides if you choose. Considering the fact that I have the chunkiest, most masculine frames at home, I chose a delicate pair with thin, deep plum sides and somewhat rectangular frames with softer, rounded edges.  The brand launched their new crystal collection, which Helena partnered with and definitely makes the glasses more of an accessory.

Here are some highlights from the conversation with Helena:

  • She started modeling so she could learn photography.
  • "I believe true beauty is when a person shows strength and vulnerability."
  • Since she doesn't like to wear a lot of jewelry, she looks at her frames from the Silhouette crystal collection as her go-to accessory.
  • Whenever she travels she wears a protection medallion.
  • "Before taking a photo put yourself in a comfortable place so you don't start making funny faces."
  • If you caught her hanging out in Denmark over the summer she'll most likely be wearing unironed clothes and dreadlocks.

Monday's Muse

This Monday's Muse is Robert Verdi. Last week during New York Fashion Week, I had the pleasure of going to Robert Verdi's Luxe Laboratory and chatting with the celebrity stylist, turned brand himself about his fabulous life and brand new show on Logo, "The Robert Verdi Show, Starring Robert Verdi!"

As soon as I began my career in the beauty industry I met Robert Verdi and was immediately inspired by his passion and drive. This was the first time I saw him since I began my new freelance career. Therefore I took his words of advice to heart, "Be opportunistic, grateful and let it happen."

Check out my interview with Robert Verdi about his new show, dressing Kathy Griffin for the Golden Globes and the hottest things to look for in fashion for fall 2010.

Hollywood's Most Dramatic Looks of 2009

As I was browsing Hollywood coverage on the Internet this weekend I came across an article on InStyle.com that I had to share. They covered the most dramatic celebrity hair transformations of the year.

Most of these looks have been covered on BeautySweetSpot as they happened, like Fergie going from blonde to brunette, but this gallery unveils it all.  Ashlee Simpson deems herself the "Queen of Hair Color" this year starting off as a blonde bombshell, then dying her locks a striking shade of red and eventually going punk with jet-black strands.

The gallery also covered Halle Berry's transformation into the pixie cut, Twilight star Ashlee Greene's chopped tresses and Jada Pinkett Smith's transformation from braids to long, straight extensions.  Check out some of your other favorite celebs drastic transformations here.
