Hollywood's Top & Most Bizarre Beauty Treatments Make Reality Stars Look Good

After watching The Bachelorette season finale this weekend and then Bachelor Pad last night (don't judge me) it made me begin to think about all of the pressure people are under to look good on TV.  Take Emily, hair extensions?  Check.  Boobs?  Check.  Veneers?  Check.  A nose job?  Yes, even that.  The poor girl did almost a 180 between seasons.  Some of the former contestants who showed up on Bachelor Pad def had a few tweaks as well.  Me?  I own up to my clip in extensions!  Added boosts on TV are a must!  However, as I was researching I found that A-listers do some crazy things for the sake of beauty.  Things that make reality stars seem normal. J. Lo, The Placenta Facial

Placenta on your face!  You would never guess that Jennifer Lopez is 42 years old and maybe the Placenta Facial is her saving grace!  Celebs are swearing by this anti-aging facial that uses human placenta to enhance the natural production elastin and collagen.  While there is no research to support the treatment, the placenta is high in protein, vitamins and minerals and J. Lo reportedly gets them at least once a week.

Demi Moore, Leech Detox Therapy

Would you ever want a leech on you on purpose?  What is wrong with people?  While leech therapy is used in medical practices mainly for helping to remove blood clots, Demi Moore believes that letting "high level medical" leeches suck her blood is optimizing her health.  The leeches have an enzyme that gets released into your blood when they bite. You bleed for a while and your blood is detoxified.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Cupping

I'm sure you saw the tabloid images of poor Gwyneth all marked up.  This is why.  She was looking for a way to ease stress, increase circulation and rid ordinary aches and pains and tried cupping, a form of acupuncture in which glass cups are heated and placed onto the body creating a vacuum effect.  Her therapist had a hard time removing the suction, because she left with marks all over her back!  It’s a common side effect.

Simon Cowell, Oxygen Inhalation

Mr. Cowell’s been carrying around an oxygen tank to protect his youth!  He believes that breathing in pure oxygen will help rejuvenate his skin, fight off aging and decrease stress. Really?  Simon, really?

Turn Your Short Story into A Film

Hey BeautySweetSpot readers! I thought I'd share this contest with you that Glamour is doing called Reel Moments. It's a great opportunity for women like you to have a short story turned into a film featuring some of your fave famous actresses. In the past, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson (my fave) and Demi Moore played lead roles in the films that were developed out of Glamour readers short stories and the films were shown at festivals throughout the US.

I personally don't think I have a short story for it, but encourage you to enter! The contest ends this week. Visit glamourreelmoments.com to enter and good luck.

Demi Moore's Skincare Secret: Stemulation

In the very beginning of the year I met with the women who created a new skincare line, Stemulation for dinner.  Being that I learn about new skincare lines almost everyday when I first sat down I didn't have major expectations.  However, when they told me their age, I was in shock.  After hearing there was no Botox or injections involved in their youthful looking skin I was intrigued to say the least to learn more about the line. I learned that the line is made out of human stem cells.  The first of its kind.  You may have heard of skincare made out of stem cells before, but they're always plant or animal based.  This is brand new technology.  The way it works is the growth factors in human stem cells are captured from donors bone marrow.  The line consists of a serum, boost creme and micro derm scrub.  An eye cream is on its way.

I've been consistently using the serum and eye cream (yes, I got a sneak peek). I use the serum before I apply my moisturizer and am looking at it as my anti-aging must have.  It's the secret behind the founders skin!  It's lightweight and I believe in it, because after about eight weeks of use, my skins texture has improved.  I pat the eye cream all the way around the orbit of my eye with my ring finger and am ridding my crows feet and keeping my eyes lifted (I did just turn 28)!

Get It While It's Hot: KohGenDo Launched in Barneys

It's not often I come across a beauty brand that I absolutely cannot live without, but KohGenDo is one of them.  About a year and a half ago the Japanese skincare and cosmetic brand launched online in the US and just recently they made their big debut on the counters at Barneys in New York and in Beverly Hills.  Get this – Barney's can't keep the products on shelves! Looks like the rest of the world is with me.  I covet the skincare.  Especially the Macro Vintage Essence Mask.  It's one product I'll share only with my mom because it's that good.  I use it once a week and it keeps my skin boosting with a fresh, dewy glow.

KohGenDo recently came out with Gommage Gel that's a gentle exfoliator and trust me on this – you know it's working. Why?  Because all of the dead skin cells and impurities you're rubbing away show as the exfoliant turns to rubbery balls. Yes, it may sound gross, but let's face it, we all like products that look or feel effective.  This skincare line has proven results over time to me.

Besides loving the skincare myself, celebrity makeup artists are cult followers of the skincare and makeup, especially the foundations.  They were used on Angelina Jolie in Salt and recently on the cast of The Reasonable Brunch (Demi Moore, Ellen Barkin and Kate Bosworth).  Ellen Barkin regularly grabs the products from Alcone in NYC whether she's filming or not.  Now KohGenDo's available to us online and in Barneys!  Check out the full range of products and let me know if you'd like suggestions... trust me, I've been using all of the skincare and tried all of the cosmetics!

Monday's Muse

This Monday's Muse is Demi Moore.

Take a close look at her photo to the left.  It's from her shoot for the cover of W magazine in December.

As fit as Demi may be (especially for her age), we all know about the harsh amount of air brushing that goes on behind the scenes in magazine art departments.  Besides the norm, all the concentration seems to have landed on Demi's missing left hip.

"When we met Demi for the W cover story, she was super-fit to start with.  There was absolutely no retouching on her hips or waist or legs," the photographers claimed to the NY Post.

Even if that was true, they did a pretty remarkable job on her face, decolletage and arms!  Koodos to the skills boys and for making women everywhere continue to achieve for that level of unattainable perfection.
