The tragedy in Texas has been unbearable to even watch on the news. Each day that passes, I sit and wish I could be of more help, and even though I've donated, I still feel helpless. I'm sure if you're reading this, then you feel the same way.
Besides the misplaced people and animals, looting is happening and the entire situation seems to be out of control despite all of the relief efforts. It's going to take a long time for the community to rebuild and get their feet back on the ground.
There are many ways you can help through donations and here are the ones that caught my eye.
The American Red Cross is accepting donations on its website. You can also text HARVEY to 90999 to donate $10.
St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in Texas is trying to place over 100 dogs in shelters in NJ to make room for the abandoned pets of Harvey. The hope is, that if the lost pets land in Texas shelters, they have a better chance of being reunited with their families after the chaos. If you live on the East coast, consider helping out shelters near you and open your home to a foster.
The Humane Society of the United States is accepting donations on its website.
Global Giving started a Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund and is accepting donations in order to supply everything from food to shelter.
The New York Times put together a comprehensive list of organizations that are collecting donations. From money to blood, food and clothing they're in need of it all. And don't forget the animals.
