on what she eats in a day, her new partnership and the best advice she's ever received
I love having the ability to interview people who inspire me. Today, I'm excited to share my latest with Maria Menounos, host of E! News and SIRIUS XM’s “Conversations with Maria Menounos." From her impressive hosting career to fit bod, she's someone I've always admired. Here, she talks about her new partnership with Rally Health, her eating and workout habits (you know you're dying to know) and the business advice from her husband that's kept her going.
If you were to start each morning with an intention, what would it be and why?
Recently, someone told me that they like to start the day with a win. Sometimes that win comes in the form of a workout, or reading a chapter from a self-help book, or even cleaning and organizing.
Congratulations on your new gig with Rally Health! Why was partnering with them so important to you?
Focusing on healthy living and health care is vital to me and my family. My Dad has had type one diabetes for almost 50 years. After his diagnosis, he chose to follow a diet rich in vegetables and free from simple carbs, and now at 72, he is as active as he was at 32. It's a lesson in how valuable healthy living can be. Working with Rally as their new Health Ambassador, I can help spread that incredible message to a bigger audience.
Even though you struggled with your weight in the past, you’re super fit now. What do you eat in a typical day?
I eat a lot like my Dad does. The paleo diet is one I adhere to, but in a 75-25 way. 75% of the time I eat Paleo and 25% I play and eat what I want. I still try to keep portions small. That's so important.
How has your life changed since you became healthier?
I have far more energy.
Let’s talk working out. What’s your favorite type of workout and why?
I like so many different workouts, from dance and cycling to weights and machines. Recently, I've been doing Pure Barre and Pilates and have been enjoying the smooth movements. Still, I'm lucky to do them once a week. Truly, the best exercise comes from walking, opting for stairs instead of escalators, and doing other physical activities in your day, just doing more of them. That’s something Rally really encourages people to do on their way to better health, just start with small steps that are actually simple and fun to do.
Your hosting career is on fire. What’s the best career advice you’ve ever gotten and who was it from?
From my fiancé Keven Undergaro, and his advice has been endless. The main thing he told me was to see my career like someone sees their financial portfolio. With finances, you need to diversify: You have money in real estate, stocks and in the bank. If the stock market crashes, you have your real estate to fall back on. If that goes south, you have your money in the bank. That's why I have done so many things in my career, and still do. Currently, I host E! News, my radio show on Sirius XM, Conversations with Maria, and the First Look Cinema Pre Show in 70% of American Theaters. I also own AfterBuzz TV, one of the largest new media platforms in the world. Diversifying is what has kept me going, and that's what I advise other talent in Hollywood to do.
