When I get my weekly mani, I normally play it safe and get a purple tinged black hue, like Essie in Luxedo, that I feel comfortable wearing. I think dark colors look chic on my short nails, and complement anything I wear. This week, I stepped out of the box and played with nail polish—even my manicurist questioned my choice!
I decided to make my nails pop and play them up as my main accessory with Essie in Haute as Hello and painting only my ring fingers with Essie in Too Too Hot. Being that the two polishes are both warm-toned, I like the way it works. It’s definitely a conversation starter!
New Spring Shades from Butter London
Normally when I go get manis and pedis I very rarely bring my own shade. (Mostly due getting them randomly on the go and forgetting to put my color in my bag.) Therefore, I'm always forced to choose between a wall of OPI and Essie colors, which don't get me wrong, I love, but in the wonderful world of nail color, there's so much more out there – like Butter London for instance.
I first discovered Butter London a few seasons ago backstage at NY Fashion Week and was introduced to the Creative Director, Nonie Creme. This Spring, Nonie was inspired by impressionist style prints that graced the Spring/Summer 2011 runways and created a palette that she calls "muted/greige."
“There is a strong move toward ‘retro’ colours this season, with many designers looking at Halston era glamour and style. This collection is all about “pops” of colour that feel unique and edgy but relevant – our trademark," Nonie commented.
The colors include Lady Muck (greyish periwinkle), Dosh (molton apple green), Teddy Girl (pale retro bubble gum), Hen Party (sheer opal, which I like as a top coat) and Blagger (cobalt blue).
Dazzle Your Nails with 24K Gold & Diamonds
Try to get me to steer away from my staples, even around the holidays and it's almost impossible. I'm talking about Essie Wicked and OPI Lincoln Park After Dark. I did try a new color by Zoya recently which seemed to shock the world. But these new colors are a must have, especially for the holiday season.
Deborah Lippmann just launched Today Was A Fairytale, an explosion of blueish sliver glitter with diamond powder and Boom Boom Pow, just as glittery with real 24K gold dust. Hello Hollywood!
I actually like the Boom Boom Pow on top of two coats of Essie Wicked or two coats of either one alone. You can find the polishes online.
Glamour Women of the Year Awards Highlights
I may not have been an honoree, but I felt like one! Last night I was honored to attend the 20th anniversary of the Glamour Women of the Year Awards with the fabulous women of L'Oreal Paris. I was psyched to attend because this years honorees included some of the biggest names including Julia Roberts, Cher, Donatella Versace and Fergie Ferg, but to my surprise I was more impacted by the honorees I've never heard of.
After being primped by the L'Oreal glam squad at the Technical Center and slipping into my alldressedup dress, I hit the red carpet with some of the best in beauty, Amber Katz, Polly Blitzer and Dana Oliver.
First, we received the updated media list that announced that Kate Hudson, Oprah, Hilary Swank, Kelly Osbourne, Janet Jackson, Katie Couric and Diane Sawyer were presenting. Kate Hudson! For those of you who consistently follow BeautySweetSpot you know she's my fave actress of all times – and besides Oprah... the only one who didn't walk the red carpet, but whatever, I'm over it.
The Red Carpet Scoop:
-
Julia Roberts came over to us to chat and called us "the cute girl corner!" Check out the video below!
- Donatella Versace dished that her must have beauty product was mascara. She was also loitering around the red carpet for quite some time.
- I've always admired her abs, but Fergie's booty stole the show in her form fitting orange-red gown!
- I'm not sure what happened, but Tory Burch looked minuscule, I'm talking 90 pounds tiny.
- Janelle Monae confessed it takes 10 people to do her hair at a time!
The awards show was completely empowering and at the same time, a tear jerker (which I didn't expect). Oprah presented Julia Roberts with an award and Kate Hudson presented to Fergie. The room was full of energy and laughter, but at times, things took a serious note.
The award that affected me the most was given to Dr. Hawa Abdi, a Somali ob-gyn who, with her two daughters, also doctors, provide for almost 90,000 people who are affected by the countries violence. Their courage is incredible and story was so touching. Katie Couric appropriately presented the award and Glamour's Women of the Year Fund will be supporting Dr. Abdi's efforts.
Glamour also partnered with L'Oreal Paris in creating a special 20th anniversary Women of the Year nail polish, $6.50 in which $3 of every bottle bought will be donated to the fund. The color is a perfect fall reddish mauve.
