Special Delivery: Crumbs Cupcakes

As I was entering my building last week, my doorman handed me a huge box of perishable items.  Eager to see what was inside I rushed into my apartment and tore open the package, which revealed six of the biggest, most elaborate cupcakes I've ever seen from Crumbs. Someone knew my sweet spot!

I brought them home to my family for Thanksgiving and we cut them up and indulged! They were so big that four of us were able to split one.  My favorite was the Oreo one with Oreo cookies on top of a vanilla cream cheese frosting and chocolate cake.  It's to die for!

Crumbs makes the most delicious cupcakes in all different sizes, but the gigantic ones make the best gifts.  I recently sent an assorted six pack of their super-sized cupcakes that are about four inches high to my best friends who just moved into a new apartment.

Check out Crumbs.com to discover the variety of cakes and locations near you.  You may want to consider ordering them for your holiday party.

Man of the Week

Ladies, meet Josh, 25,  a native New Yorker who's an area manager for Chrysler.  Thanks to his girlfriend his grooming habits are on par.  Check out what how this cutie maintains his good looks:

What's in your medicine cabinet?
Aussie Instant Freeze Hair Gel, Head and Shoulders Shampoo, Clean and Clear Face Wash, Tone Body Wash, Clinique Moisturizer, Curve cologne (I know most of these product are girly but I live with my girlfriend so she introduced me to most of these).

What product can't you live without and why?

Curve cologne - I like making my presence know when I walk into a room and sometimes the best way to do that is with a nice cologne.

How would you describe your grooming habits?

Fairly consistent - when I go out I like to look my best. A little scruff, gelled hair, nice watch and well dressed.

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure? Why or why not?

Yes and Yes. I am a nail biter. A frequent manicure stops me from biting. Pedicures only before a vacation.

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why? More importantly, what would you do?

Jay Z.  I would fly on his Global Express (Private Jet) to the Amalfi Coast, then take his yacht to Ibiza while sipping Mai Tia's, partying like a rock star with him (hopefully Beyonce and Rihanna will be there).

What's the first thing you notice about a woman?

Hair

Do you prefer a woman au naturel or all made up?  How come?

Made up. I like a girl who takes care of herself.

How about down there?

Bare - I'm big on grooming so she should be too.

When it comes to a woman's beauty what's your sweet spot?

A smile - I love making my girlfriend laugh

Amp Up Your Profile Pic

How many social networking sites are you on?  From Facebook and MySpace to Twitter, LinkedIn and all of the dating sites it's important to have the appropriate type of portraits for each one that capture your true beauty. After all, with billions of people looking at your profiles every day, don't you want to look your best?  Here are some tips on how to perfect a self portrait:

  • Shoot in daylight or if you're doing this indoors, make sure you have ample lighting
  • Put a mirror behind the camera so you can see the display screen
  • Make light your best friend.  Try different angles and use the light to alter your face

If you live in the New York area, DEX New York put together a fabulous photo package valued at $550 for only $49 to help amp up your social networking profile pics.  It includes a makeup application by one of their uber talented artists, hair styling, portraits and a tiny bit of retouching (yes, I said it, even retouching).  The special is going on now through December 23rd.  On a personal note, I recently got my head shots done there and the team did a fab job.

My CBS Segment

Besides doing a segment live from the red carpet for E! during the Emmys, the CBS segment I did on Tuesday was the most exciting yet.  Finding out about it very last minute, I was pretty nervous, but loved the topic so we had a lot of fun filming.

I discussed how to transform your Thanksgiving leftovers into at-home skin care recipes by using two of the most festive foods of the season: pumpkin and cranberries.  Believe it or not, both ingredients will improve your skins tone and texture with repeated use!

My friend Michelle and I arrived early at DEX New York Studios, to start whipping up the concoctions I'd be discussing. After shoving cranberries and oatmeal into a blender and mixing some pumpkin puree we were set to go.

The producer and film crew arrived right on time.  I've never done a taped segment before so it was a great experience and a lot less pressure.  After discussing the skin care recipes, I gave affordable alternatives for those who don't have time to create face masks and exfoliants out of scratch (or for those who just want to eat all of their left overs).  Here are some great products you can use to get the same benefits: Zia Natural Pumpkin Exfoliating Mask, Peter Lamas Pumpkin Spice Polish, Jason Natural Cranberry Hand and Body Lotion and Alba Botanica Hawaiian Green Tea Eye Gel.

You can watch the segment here and CBS News put an article up about it that includes all of the at-home skin care recipes.  Let me know if you try any!

Man of the Week

Ladies, meet Joel, aka Soul Joel, a very well known 29-year-old standup comedian from Staten Island, NY. He's also a radio personality on The Comedy Point and the co-founder of Soul Joel Productions. Who doesn't like a guy that'll make them laugh? Check out his live radio show here and laugh away.

 What’s in your medicine cabinet?

Crest Toothpaste, Neutrogena Clean Pore, Fx Spiking Glue

What product can’t you live without and why?

Some sort of hair gel! Wow, I never thought I'd say that. I guess living on Staten Island has taken over my decision process, but my hair doesn't feel the same if I don't have gel in it.

How would you describe your grooming habits?

Well my 2 sisters, call me the 3rd sister because they both feel they are more masculine then I am. Can we start this interview over?

I'm 50% Italian, which means if I let my eye brows go natural, they would become one. I get them waxed, there I said it.

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure? Why or why not?

I haven't, but a guy that works in my mom works with had gotten a pedicure once and raved about it. So I'm not ruling it out either one, as a possibility for the future

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why? More importantly, what would you do?

This is a tough question, since you said ANY celebrity, my first thought is what female would I choose? But then you asked and what would you do, so I'm going with Diddy. Or whatever he's calling himself this week.

I would to just shadow him in a day in the life of what he does. I pride myself on being someone who has created my own opportunities in the entertainment industry, just like he did coming up. I used the money I made from my former day job in pharmaceutical sales to start Soul Joel Productions. I think spending some time with Diddy would be both inspirational and insightful.

What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?

Whether she has a nice smile or not.

Do you prefer a woman au naturel or all made up?

I have a two part answer here. I like a girl that can be pretty either way. If she is just as pretty when she wakes up with no make up, as when she went to sleep, than that's a keeper.

No one is perfect first thing in the morning, but I don't want a girl to be a completely different person when she is all done up. Does that make sense?

How about down there?

Completely bare, landing strip, neatly groomed but not natural that’s for sure. I want whatever the girl likes, as long as it's not overgrown. And we're talking about on a girl, right? Just making sure, I've never shaved a landing strip on myself.

When it comes to a woman’s beauty what’s your sweet spot?

Her smile and eyes. I pride myself on being able to light up a room and bring smiles people's faces. There is no better feeling in the world to me. When a girl smiles, if she can do the same, it says a lot about her. Some of the best communication at times, can be unspoken.

If she smiles at you and you are making eye contact, you can connect on another level without having said 1 word.

Tried and True

I've tried lots of different products to fill in my light, sparse brows.  From pencils that fill in gaps to gels that darken my hairs, I was never picky as long as they looked like they were there, until I discovered something different, Talika Eyebrow Extender.  Now, there's no turning back.

When I was first introduced to the product I didn't believe it's claims.  It actually extends your eyebrows and creates hair, well kind of.  It's a gel that contains microscopic fibers that actually cling onto your eyebrows giving them a fuller and thicker appearance.  I comes in several different shades to match your hair color.

I use dark brown and swipe it over each brow when I'm doing my makeup and and it really does boost my brows for the night.  As soon as I wash my face they're back to normal.

You can get the Talika Eyebrow Extender for $35 here.

Mr. Beckham's New Look

It seems that one of People's sexiest men alive, David Beckham, is pulling a Rihanna! The soccer stud was recently spotted court side at a LA Lakers game cheering the team on with an edgy new lock look.  The mohawk-like cut goes down the back of his head in the same style as the front.  As shocked as I was to see the new 'do, I still have one word to describe him: gorgeous.

You're How Old?

Out at a bar the other night I over heard a group of guys commenting on how "hot" their cocktail waitress was, but found myself stunned when I heard one of them say, "Yea, but did you look at her neck? She's old."  And he continued to fill his friends in on his secret, which was to look at a woman's neck and not just her face to identify her true age.  Let's just say I was thoroughly impressed.

It's true.  Most women pay so much attention to their faces that they tend to neglect other areas of their body that show their age or make them appear even older.  Trust me ladies, three areas not to be ignored are your neck, chest and hands.  Here are some suggestions on how to keep them looking young:

Neck

Signs of aging tend to appear quickly on the neck because the skin is very thin with little sebaceous oil glands and natural moisture.  Look at your neck like an extension of your face and bring your moisturizers down into it.  You can also try 3Lab Perfect Neck Cream, which is a super hydrating, firming cream that helps fight the signs of aging.

Chest

Like your neck, the skin on your chest is super thin and very susceptible to sun damage.  PCA makes professional products that you can use at home that work wonders on hyperpigmentation.  Their Phaze 13 Pigmentation Gel contains hydroquinone, which lightens sun spots over time.  I used it twice a day on my face and chest. To aid in firmness, try Sampar Lift Me Up Bust Cream.  It contains wheat proteins, horse chestnut extracts and vitamins that'll restore the fine lines.  Take this one down from your upper chest into your bust for an added lift where it counts!

Hands

The skin on the back of your hands is so delicate because there's no fat underneath it, which is the reason why you can see your veins right through them.  Since on average, Americans wash their hands about 8 times per day, you can start protecting them with your hand wash.  I like Nature's Gate Pomegranate Sunflower Velvet Moisture Liquid Soap because it's super moisturizing and has antioxidants in it to aid in anti-aging protection. You should also use a moisturizer with antioxidants and skin brightening ingredients in it.  A great one, Hands Perfection Complete Day Cream.  Once a week, give them a little facial and treat them to a mask like Zia Natural Skincare Oceanic Clay Rejuvenating Mask.

My BetterCT Segment

This past Wednesday I traveled up to Hartford, CT to discuss the benefits of botanicals in beauty products on BetterCT. My contributer, Michelle, came along for support and we started our morning at 5:30 am each with a cup of black hazel nut coffee.  As we pulled up to the studio, we found ourselves pleasantly surprised by the massive modernized building that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere (much different from NYC).

Before I knew it I was in front of the cameras and ready to roll.  I found myself educating a small live audience of older women who were intrigued by the products that laid before them along with all of CT.  In case you don't know, botanicals such as plant and flower extracts and oils are widely used in beauty products to help fight against aging, acne and other skin conditions and some are also very moisturizing.

I featured some of the latest products on the market including different botanicals that target different skin care needs.  The picks: Decleor Hydra Floral Collection, KohGenDo Macro Vintage Stretch Eye Sheets, Philosophy the Supernatural Lit from Within Cream Blush, Ahava Mineral Botanic Velvet Cream Body Wash, Pantene Pro-V Nature Fusion Smooth Vitality Shampoo and Conditioner and Leonor Greyl Masque de Jasmin.

A New Bandwagon Men Should Jump Off

I don't know if it's NYC or if it has something to do with the economy, but through living the life of a single socialista I find myself asking the question... What happened to dinner?

I feel like it was a sudden change, like OMG dare I say, the elimination of parabens from beauty products? Whether educated on the subject or not, we all know by now that parabens are harmful to our health and to make sure the packaging clearly reads "paraben free."

All of a sudden dating has turned from dinner after dinner and getting to know each other over great meals and endless conversation to a casual glass of chardonnay, then a few vodka sodas, maybe some blurry nights with... what's his name again?

Just as the beauty industry jumped on the "green" bandwagon, it seems single men or as someone once called them, "man-boys," are jumping on this one.  Is the economy to blame?  Some men say so, but others claim it's too easy to get what they want without dinner.  Ladies, you may want to think before downing that next glass of chardonnay.

Man of the Week

Allow me to introduce you to up and coming music sensation, Josh Cocktail, well, Josh, 24, from Boca Raton, Fl. He may not appear to be well groomed, but he swears he shampoos and conditions regularly even though it sometimes ends up in a big mat in the back of his head.  Hmm... Dig the rock star style? Read on and check out some of his songs on his YouTube channel.

When it comes to a woman’s beauty what’s your sweet spot?

"when you smile it makes me smile" i think i fall for a  smile sometimes before i fall for the rest of a girl.

Korres Give Away

I don't normally shop for my beauty products online because I feel I need the in store experience of smudging colors on my hand, smelling hairsprays and feeling a product before I purchase it to make sure I'm going to like it. To me, experiencing the color, texture, scent, and application can make or break a purchase.  However, I recently discovered a website strictly devoted to selling luxury hair care that I have to share, Lock and Mane

I appreciate it because it carries brands that you can never find in one place such as Lenor Greyl, Oscar Blandi, Klorane, Mason Pearson, Jennifer Behr, Hot Tools, T3 and Philip B.  From styling products, to stylish hair accessories, hot tools and treatments, Lock and Mane has it all.  These types of luxe products carry the credibility of normally being suggested by top stylists, which is why I like it.  Sometimes, you can also find significant discounts on top-noch brands.

To celebrate Lock and Mane's new partnership with Korres, three lucky BeautySweetSpot readers will win a Korres Travel Kit valued at $40.  The kit contains mini versions of the brands Aloe and Soapwort Shampoo, Achiellea Conditioner, Basil Lemon Showergel, Vanilla Cinnamon Showergel and Vanilla Cinnamon Body Milk.

All you have to do is comment below by telling me what your all-time favorite hair product is and why you love it.

Rock the Red Lip the Right Way

Wearing a red lip is far from easy, but Leighton Meester nailed it at the 2009 Emmys this past September.  Thinking about trying it for the holiday season?   Go for it.  It can bring a level of elegance and sophistication to any pout, as long as it's done right.  Joanna Schlip, Physicians Formula Celebrity  Makeup Artist, gave me some pointers on how to perfect the look.

First, you have to make sure you choose the proper shade for your skin tone.  If you have a pale, pinkish complexion, choose a cool, blue-red lipstick, whereas if you have a more olive complexion, go with a red that has an orange base.

Once you have the right color, pat foundation all over your lips and apply powder on top just like you would to your face.  Then, take a nude pencil and outline your lips.

"When you decide to wear red lipstick, you're making a commitment for the night and there's no turning back," commented Schlip.

Before applying the lipstick, use a lip stain.  You can create your own with jell-o.  Just stick a wet q-tip into red jell-o mix and apply it onto your lips. Allow it to stain your lips as you finish getting ready.

And now for the grand finale, just before you walk out the door, use a lip brush to apply your red lipstick.  The brush gives you better control over the placement of the pigment.

Glamour Women of the Year

On Monday night Glamour hosted the 2009 Women of the Year Awards at Carnegie Hall in NYC honoring Rihanna, Maria Shriver, Stella McCartney, Amy Poehler, Serena Williams, and Maya Angelou… just to name a few.  I
must say, less was more, because the au naturale look really stood out.

Funny lady and honoree, Amy Poehler, was simply radiant with soft
rosy cheeks and subtle eye shadow enhancing her blue eyes, but her bright pink lipstick was a clincher.  To get the look, I would recommend Stila’s Long
Wear Lip Color in Coquette, a pinky- mauve and a great
mascara with a brush that separates lashes like Max Factors Lash
Perfection Stretch & Separate Mascara in 701 Rich Black.

Currently starring
David Mamet’s Race on Broadway, Kerry Washington, decided to keep her makeup at a minimum too. Simple black eyeliner lined the inner rims of her eyes and bright pink blush enhanced her bone structure.  I’ve found that Almay’s Blendable Eye Pencil in Black is
really easy to apply and lasts all day. To get the bright pink hue on
your cheeks try Too Faced OOH LA ROUGE.  It incorporates two complimentary
shades, one for contour and the other for shimmer.  Pink Provocateur is perfect shade of
pink that’ll give you a natural blush... kind of like the one I get
when I look at Johnny Depp.

Men: A True Aging Addiction

I've said it before, and I'll admit it again, I'm a former tanorexic.  There was something about baking in that tanning bed day after day for those eight to twelve, sometimes twenty minutes at a time that I found so satisfying.  Each time I left it, I couldn't wait to see it again...  just like a man I met, who my friends call my "Mr. Big."

There was something about him, maybe what I saw as his unattainable level of NYC perfection.  Remember when Carrie caught Mr. Big having dinner with Natasha, but it didn't take very long for him to be able to sweep her off her feet all over again?  Ladies, like the tanning bed, men can age you.  Be careful and picky of those who you select to spend your time with.  The ones who are worth it will recognize you're a good catch.

Now, years after not seeing the bed, I look back and can't believe I let it get the best of me.  The crows feet that already began to form around my eyes remind me of it every day and I proudly pat on my eye cream (with my ring finger, of course) and thank God that's all I ended up with.  Now, I look back at my Mr. Big and laugh, he's still in the same place and I am so over that game.

Man of the Week

Matthew, 26, is a high school math and science tutor who seems to have a thing for cows... well, not really, but he does crave "uninhibited artsy-girl sex" with a popular actress.  Ladies, he's single and ready to tutor... read on.

What’s in your medicine cabinet?

I don't think I go too nuts with the products, at least for a Manhattanite.  I shave with King of Shaves shave gel (stupid name, I'll give you that, but good stuff.  Gives a really smooth shave).   I use a few St. Ives products - the skin cream and the apricot facial scrub.  I wear Banana Republic “M” cologne.  There's also this stuff called Bag Balm - kind of like Vaseline but more "medicinal" - farmers actually used to use it on cows' udders when they got chapped, no joke.  Turns out it's phenomenal for damaged skin so I wind up putting it on my hands in wintertime when they get chapped.  My mom introduced me to that one; it comes in an antique-looking tin.  Finally, I run a lot, so I apply Aquaphor to prevent chafing.

What product can’t you live without and why?

VO5 "Extreme Reworkable Putty.”  I can wake up with bed hair that makes me look like a mental patient, rub a bit of it in my hair for ten seconds, and have nicely defined curls.  Good stuff; doesn’t get crunchy or sticky.  It's not tested on animals.  And it’s only $3.99.

How would you describe your grooming habits?

I'm pretty conscientious about grooming.  I consider myself lucky because I'm not a hairy dude.  If I had a ton of body hair I'd definitely take care of it, but I don't have the hairy chest or hairy back that some guys have.  I'm grateful for that.  That said, I'm not a fan of looking overly neat - any man under the age of 40 who has a strongly defined side part of the hair, or who chooses to wear khakis on a regular basis, needs to be put in a headlock and given a noogie.

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure? Why or why not?

No.  I guess I'd be up for it, though.  I hear they give you a nice massage and everything.  The closest I came was getting a foot massage in Amsterdam.  The girl there actually told me I needed a pedicure, but I need the calluses on my feet for playing sports.  And yes, it was only a massage.

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why? More importantly, what would you do?

Hmm…I’ll take this to mean if I could date any celebrity for a night.  Zooey Deschanel.  She’s not a super sultry bombshell type, but she’s beautiful, and she’s a talented actress and singer.  I also feel that she’s probably smart and quirky and that we’d get along.  We’d go for a drink or two at one of those speakeasy places that have really fantastic drinks, like Little Branch or Apotheke.  I’ve been learning to salsa for the past few months, so once we had a little liquid courage we’d go dance some salsa.  Either that or karaoke; I’d like to see someone who can actually sing doing karaoke.  Then we’d go back to my place and inevitably have uninhibited artsy-girl sex.

However, if I could have just the sexual aspect of a one-night stand, I’d go with Denise Richards.  I wouldn’t want to talk, I’d just want to put the thought of her banging Charlie Sheen out of my head and have a great time in bed.

What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?

It really depends on the woman.  I find different girls attractive for different reasons.  Girls have caught my eye with lots of different physical attributes – hair, eyes, butt, smile, chest, arms, calf muscles…the list goes on.

That said, I can narrow my tendencies down a bit based on a few things.  First of all, what she's wearing and how far away she is when I first see her.  I'll be honest, if I'm walking outside and I first see a girl half a block away and she's walking toward me wearing something form-fitting, chest.  However, if I'm at a party, or in a bar or at the bank or whatever, and I first see her at close range, it’s often the lips.  Hair can also be eye-catching to me.

I’ve only talked about physical things here, obviously not because that’s all that matters, but because the first thing you notice about someone is pretty much always physical.  Although now that I think about it, I’ve flirted with a telephone customer service girl or two because she’s had a sexy voice.

Do you prefer a woman au naturel or all made up?

Tough call.  Most girls look sexier when they're all made up, but when a girl looks cute in sweats or whatever it’s a definite turn-on.  As far as makeup, I think wearing too much is both worse and more noticeable than not wearing enough.

How about down there?

Gotta go with completely bare.  It looks best, but more importantly it feels best.

Maybe this is too much info, but a girl I dated in college once tried to shave the first letter of my name down there.  She messed it up and wound up just shaving it all off.  I appreciated the effort, but even if she had managed it, that wouldn’t have been cool; that’s just weird.  It’s like a cow being branded or something.  Anyway, I digress.  Sorry.  Wow, that’s the second time I’ve mentioned cows in an interview for a beauty blog.  Weird.

When it comes to a woman’s beauty what’s your sweet spot?

Hm.  Physically, I think if a woman’s eyes convey intelligence, honesty, lightness of heart, and a sense of self, that’s the absolute sweet spot.  That obviously has a lot to do with the non-physical characteristics I look for in a woman.  There’s definitely something revealing about the eyes in that sense.  Of course, big breasts and a flat stomach are nice too.

Lather the Old Fashioned Way

Do you remember when loofas became popular? I don't know about you, but I've been using body wash at least since high school.  I can't even remember the last time I scrubbed a wash cloth with a bar of soap.   But I have noticed through snooping around men's bathrooms (including my own brothers) that 99% of them use bar soap.  What is it with men and the bar?  A popular brand I repeatedly saw was Yardley, so I put it to the test.

My brother likes the English Lavender scent, but I opted to try Lavender Wisteria, the scent is very relaxing and turned my shower into a soothing atmosphere.  It didn't take long for the wash cloth to create a nice lather. Made with organic shea butter, honey, lavender extracts, rose and oatmeal for exfoliation it left my body feeling refreshed and smelling subtly like lavender.  The experience was pleasant.

I have nothing against bar soaps and think they're actually more economic.  I know I definitely squeeze more liquid than necessary out of my body wash daily.  It all comes down to personal preference, but I believe that as long as you're using quality soap that cares for your skin your skin will thank you.

Celebs Support Women In Need, So Can You

I recently began working with an amazing charity, Women In Need (WIN).  They help provide shelter for homeless families in NYC. Believe it or not, over 100,000 people in NYC will have experienced homelessness this year. In college I did some philanthropic work through my sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, and always found it to be rewarding, but was never able to contribute too much time to it due to the demands of my workload.  Since I began freelancing, one of my goals was to get involved with a New York based charity and when I was introduced to the ladies at WIN, I knew it was the right one.

I paid a visit to one of their six shelters to experience for myself what the living situation was like for these families once WIN came into their lives.  To my surprise, they were all set up like college dorms, each family having their own apartment.  I always thought shelters were big open rooms with a ton of beds in cold, unfriendly atmospheres, but this one was inviting.  It also provided counseling for the guests and child care.  I was truly touched.

Currently, homelessness in NYC is at the highest number ever recorded, so the charity is hosting an auction on CharityBuzz.com that starts today and will run through November 30th to help raise money.  Here's where it gets fun... they partnered with A-listers, designers, sports stars, hip hop artists and Broadway performers.  Each one designed and signed a paper mache house that you can bid on.

Some of the celebs include: Diddy, Halle Berry, Oscar de la Renta, Debra Messing, Mary J. Blige, Sean Avery, Justin Timberlake, Diane Von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, Bobbi Brown, Ludacris, Vera Wang, Isaac Mizrahi, the Beckhams and the cast of the musical "Hair"

I got a sneak peak at all of the houses the other night and my favorite is Diddys! Surprise, surprise.  It has a helicopter on the top of it.  I can see it on his number one fans wish list.  Diane Von Furstenbergs is very... well, very DVF of course lined with patterns and Bobbi Brown made her all out of colored cosmetics, very chic looking.

You can check out all of the houses and bid on your favorite one here.  To learn more about the charity visit their website and follow me on Twitter @Jeannine_WIN for live auction updates.

The Best of the European Music Awards

The European Music Awards took place in Berlin on November 5th.  The MAC Pro Team was on board to primp some of the artists and dancers involved with the show and ended up using over 600 false eye lashes, 60 shadow colors, 300 nail polishes, 20 pots of loose powder, 200 powder puffs, 25 different glitters 1,000 makeup sponges and 1,000 makeup brushes.  Talk about numbers.  Out of all the fine tuning, two starletts stood out on the red carpet: Shakira and Katy Perry.

Shakira looked flawless with her classic sleek ponytail.  In order to prevent pesky fly-aways I would recommend Shinbi's Magic Move Light, $18.  Work a dollop of this cream from the ends up to your roots before brushing it into a sleek pony.  It'll leave your locks smooth without feeling sticky or hard.

Katy Perry hosted the awards and I couldn't help but notice her sheen overall glow. A great way to highlight your assets when wearing a strapless dress is to apply highlighting powder to your collarbone and arms. I would suggest MAC's Iridescent Powder in Golden Bronze, $22.
