I'm sure you saw Kate Upton's new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover, which believe it or not was shot in Antarctica. Can you imagine? One would think that because of the freezing temperatures there it was shot in front of a green screen. “It was a real challenge, the first day we arrived there was a blizzard and I was just thinking that it was all going to be a disaster," Kate's hair stylist Peter Butler commented. I spoke with Peter about shoot details and of course, her smooth strands. "Thankfully, the next five days there was sun every day," he exclaimed. Yes, thankfully there was at least sun while Kate was practically naked in Antarctica. When it came to her hair, Peter used Leonor Greyl’s Mousse au Lotus Volumatrice and blow dried with a large round brush. Then, curled big sections of her hair with a large barreled iron, but there was a challenge.
"With the temperature in the teens, hair that is highlighted or colored can become extremely brittle, so I used the Éclat Naturel after brushing her hair out to soften it up and give some separation," Peter explained. "Because it was so cold, the cream actually ended up turning into more of a paste because the formula is so natural."
He described the freezing temperatures like working in a desert. The atmosphere was so dry, he had to work with, not against the elements.
