Fitness: Sacrifices for Better Shape

For the past four years I’ve been in a committed relationship with my gym – Club H Fitness.  The only time I ever cheated was to test out Physique 57 classes or turbo spin classes at other studios, but at the end of the day, I was faithful.  Until now…

I quit.  I joined New York Sports Club to make a long story short (I know, I know).  Truth is, my best friend and boyfriend both belong and as of late my motivation is coming from taking classes with them. Despite the fact that I did see an ant at the NYSC near my apartment, I did take one of the best classes I’ve ever taken in my life there – Turbo Kickboxing.  (Side note: Club H is the cleanest gym ever… so spoiled!)

A study from Oregon Health and Science University found that when people attended gym classes, they worked out 69% more often, as opposed to 54% when exercising alone, which proves my theory.  I’m ignoring the ants and taking the plunge… Hello New York Sports!

Fit Tip: Exercise Like Angels for A Bombshell Bod

Truth: even angels need to work out to stay fit. In a recent interview I did with Adriana Lima she dished that the secret to her hot bod was jumping rope with her trainer.  Heidi Klum and Miranda Kerr seem to have a few tricks up their sleeves as well.

Studies have proven that people who work out with a friend are more successful at working out more consistently.  The same goes for relationships.  Couples who work out together and share the same health goals last longer. Whether your motivation comes from a personal trainer or a friend, a companion helps you stay on track.

Oblique Workout for Toned Abs

Since I came back from all of my travels I’ve been hitting the gym again hard core and am focusing on total body conditioning as bikini season is right around the corner.  Short term goals – trips to Punta Cana and St. Thomas!  But in general, I’m a fitness junkie and love having a tightly toned bod so I thought I’d let you in on some tips.  Looking at abs engulfed by love handles?  Don’t worry, you still have time!

The abdominals are made up of four main muscle groups and in order to have a completely toned stomach, it should come as no surprise that you need to target them all.  Celebrity trainer to Anne Hathaway and Heidi Klum, David Kirsch credits oblique crunches to helping Heidi Klum get back on the runway immediately after giving birth.

Start off by… doing a set of basic crunches to get your core warmed up, then begin focusing on your obliques.  ”Lay on your right side with knees bent, right arm on the floor in front of you, left hand behind your head,”  Kirsch explains.

You Don’t Have to Go Hard to Get Fit this Year

Being that it’s the new year I wasn’t surprised to see some out of shape newbies in my cardio sculpting gym class this morning.  To be honest, I hate going to the gym the first three months of the year because losing weight and getting in shape seems to be every one’s resolution!  Honestly, wake up people!  You don’t need to wait until Jan. 1 to try to get in shape.

Anyway, I love going to the gym and try to hit it about five days per week, but I have to say, I can still work on toning the lower half (if you know what I mean).  Here’s a little gym tip for all – newbies and gym rats – that I learned from an old trainer. Pushing yourself hard everyday may feel good and you may think you’re on a roll – but slow down! – believe it or not, there is such thing as too much exercise.
