Confessions of A Speed Dater
Last night I attended Purple Lab NYC’s Find A Luvah Speed Dating Event at the W in Hoboken.  Having never gone to a speed dating event before, I found myself partially inspired by Creatrix, Karen Robinovitz’s serial dating story and by Kate Hudson’s role in my favorite movie, “How to Loose A Guy in Ten Days.”  Therefore, I attended the event as a speed dater/reporter in disguise.

Karen went on over 149 dates before meeting her luvah, Todd, and created this event for singles hoping it would help them speed up the process by having over 500 people in one place, and each date lasting only three minutes. Kate Hudson, or Andy Anderson in the movie, was challenged to date a guy (Matthew McConaughey) for ten days and do all of the what not to do’s to drive him away.

With the support of some of my single girlfriends who I dragged along with me, I put on my game face and tried to find a luvah like Karen for some of the dates, acting like myself and really enjoying the process and for others, I pulled a 180 and did a different dating faux paus for each to see how the guy would react.

Here’s what happened:

Victim 1: I kept having eye sex with the guy behind him.

His reaction: He ignored it at first and kept up with the conversation, then turned around to see what I was looking at and looked back at me and said, “Do you know him?”  I said, “Not yet.”  I couldn’t help but laugh.  He did not take down my speed dating number.

Victim 2: I told him I believed we were meant to be because our speed dating numbers were very close to each other, asked him his sign, told him it went with mine and that I could already tell we belonged together.

His reaction: For starters, he didn’t take down my number at the end of the three minutes, which means he wasn’t interested.  He told me he had no idea what his sign meant and asked me if I was “some kind of spiritual person or something.”  He played along with me, answered my questions, but I thought it was really interesting when he told me he like planets….

Victim 3: I told him I wanted to get married and have tons of babies as soon as possible.

His reaction: His eyebrows rose and he smiled.  He told me he lived in Hoboken and worked in the city then asked me what I did.  I told him and tried to steer the conversation back to wanting to have a family. He completely ignored the statement.  He did not take down my number.

Victim 4: I repeated everything he said.

His reaction:  He actually wrote down my number!  I’m not sure if he’ll really try to connect with me or not, but he pretended he was interested after our date.  At first he just thought I wanted him to answer the questions he was asking me first, but then when I would repeat his answers he couldn’t start laughing.  He had a great sense of humor.

Victim 5: I gave one word answers and didn’t say much.

His reaction: “Do you have anything to say? We only have three minutes.”  He was a little shocked and frustrated, then started rattling out questions for me to answer on rapid fire.  I just stared at him shaking my head, still giving very little.  He also, didn’t take down my speed dating number.

Remember, these all happened within three minutes each!  And… just for the record, yes, I did meet some very cute guys who I do hope to see again! ;)  Purple Lab NYC launched their new Luvah lip gloss that’s a double plumper with a 3D glossy effect.  Soon to be available on HSN starting Feb. 18th so tune in!

Face Off Fridays

Jesus Luz’s Risque Photo Shoot

Ladies, please, do yourself a favor and look at the photos of Jesus Luz.  Never in my life have I ever seen something more beautiful, but I’m going to bring up a question: Is Mr. Luz showing a little too much?

Photographed for Interview magazine Madonna’s boy toy almost let it all hang out.  His pubic hair?  Really?  The 23 year-old Brazilian refused to speak about his relationship with Madonna during the interview, but was shameless when it came to showing off his hot bod.

What do you think?  Post a comment below and let me know if you think he showed too much or not enough!

Man of the Week

Even though I love to feature men from all over the country, I always get excited when New Yorkers are nominated.  Meet Jon, 27, a trader originally from Brooklyn, NY, but currently resides in Harrison, NY.  He describes his grooming habits as “caveman-esque,” which is a first for BeautySweetSpot! Eeek!  Thankfully, it sounds (and looks) like his girlfriend keeps him in check.

What’s in your medicine cabinet?

Nivea after Shave, J&J baby powder, AXE deodorant and shave gel

What product can’t you live without and why?

Nothing in my medicine cabinet is that crucial.  Its more like what product my girlfriend can’t live without me having and that would be deodorant (Ya, I smell at times, I’m a man and I’m supposed to have a musk).

How would you describe your grooming habits?

Caveman-esque, I clean myself daily and shave when it’s needed. Chances are you wont get much more then that out of me day to day.

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure? Why or why not?

No and honestly do I really need to explain why a man should not be worried about things like his mani/pedi?

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why? More importantly, what would you do?

Homer Simpson – Why?!  Why not, how awesome would it be to actually spend one night in The Simpsons household with Homer and the family?  I could only imagine what kind of hijinx would arise in that 24hr period.  The one thing I could hope to do would be eat one of those donuts, with the pink frosting he is always eating, those look good.

What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?

Eyes, if you pay attention you can learn a lot about someone just by looking them square in the face.

Do you prefer a woman au natural or all made up?

Natural beauty the way the good lord made her.

How about down there?

Keep it clean, this is America, if you want to grow “a field of dreams”, take it else where.

When it comes to a woman’s beauty what’s your sweet spot?

Personality, all the good looks in the world die out hard and fast if she doesn’t have a sense of humor or the ability to hold an intelligent conversation.

The Veneer Scoop

These days it seems everyone in Hollywood is rocking an A-list smile thanks to a little help from veneers.  Celebs such as Miley Cyrus, Jessica Simpson, Halle Berry, Denzel Washington and Kate Beckinsale are smiling bigger than ever before.  I got the scoop about these precious teeth from Celebrity Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Sherri Worth, who is credited for Kelly Carlson from Nip Tuck‘s gorge chompers.

Who is a good candidate for veneers?
Candidates for veneers vary.  If you do not like the shape, color or size of your teeth, you can change that with veneers.  Cracked, broken, misaligned teeth can be straightened, strengthened, and made beautiful with porcelain veneers.  If you love the size, shape, color, but your teeth are crooked–orthodontics is a better alternative.  However, you should take a close look at your teeth to determine if you like the look because if you don’t, simply straightening them might not solve your problem.

What are the benefits of having veneers?
The benefits of having veneers is that (when done properly) they create a gorgeous smile that is durable and do not change color or stain like natural teeth do.  Few of us are born with fabulous teeth–veneers have enabled those of us who are not satisfied with our teeth to obtain a healthy, beautiful smile that lasts a long time.

Exactly what are they and how are they done?
Porcelain veneers are a thin porcelain sheet that is bonded to your tooth to correct cracked, broken, crooked, stained, or unattractive teeth.  The teeth are prepared by removing 1/2-1 mm of teeth structure on the surface, taking impressions, and lab fabricating porcelain veneers that are bonded on permanently.  The final result is a beautiful smile.  You must have a healthy dentition to have porcelain veneers fabricated.

About how much does a set of veneers cost?

Veneers range from about $1800-3000 per tooth.

Do they last forever?
Veneers are very durable and pretty indestructible, but can break like normal teeth.  They do not last forever.  You need to replace them every 10-20 years–depending on how well you take care of them.
