Man of the Week

Ladies, meet Akbar, 24, a single PR Exec who spends his time between NYC and Miami.  Talk about having the best of both worlds!  And did anyone mention tall, dark and handsome?

What’s in your medicine cabinet?

Art of Shaving – the 4 elements to a perfect shave, amazing!!!

Clarins Men Under Eye Serum – takes care of dark circles and lines forming after all the crazy nights of partying

MyBlend Anti Stress Management Lotion – controls the acne and keeps my face moisturized

Propecia – trying to keep that hair as long as I can!

YSL La Nuit de L’homme – my favorite new scent

Aquafresh Extreme Clean – love the foaming action and cooling sensation

What product can’t you live without and why?

I definitely couldn’t live without XFusion Keratin Fibers.  Most people probably haven’t heard of this product, but it is a well guarded secret.  Everyone from A-list celebrities to the average Joe use this product to cover up thinning hair or to enhance hair for a photo shoot or the red carpet.  Let’s face it guys, none of us want to go bald.  XFusion lets you maintain that “full hair” look and looks natural.

How would you describe your grooming habits?

I think my grooming habits are pretty normal in comparison to other real “city” guys.  I definitely try and get a haircut in at least once a month with a touch up in between.  I shave my facial hair about once a week since I personally prefer an edgier, rough look.  When it comes to body hair I’m pretty “au natural” and definitely keep it trim down there and everywhere but am not into shaving or waxing my body.

Have you ever gotten a manicure or pedicure? Why or why not?

Definitely, and after my sister forced me to do it the first time in college I am hooked.  She would ask me why I always wore socks and it’s because I was embarrassed by my feet and when she saw them she understood why.  After she told me that no girl would want to “hit that” she dragged me to her nail place and next thing you know I’m a regular.  I started with manicures after that because hey, why not?

If you could have one night with any celebrity who would it be and why?  More importantly, what would you do?

I think it would have to be Lady GaGa – she is crazy, outgoing, and daring.  I like that.  Probably follow her to the recording studio, perform a duet, and then party all night!  JUST DANCE!

What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?

I notice a few things right away, eyes, lips, and teeth.  Just a woman’s eyes can say so much about who they are, and sometimes the way they look at you can be very sexy.  Full lips are extremely hot as well, sounds cliché, but Angelina Jolie’s lips are ideal.  And last but not least it is IMPERATIVE to maintain proper dental hygiene; I can’t stress how disgusting it is when you have yellow teeth or bad breath.

Do you prefer a woman el natural or all made up?  How come?

I prefer them both ways, depends on the occasion and the mood.  If I’m taking her out to dinner and then we’re going partying or going out after I definitely want her all done and rocking it out because I want to show her off and enjoy looking at her.  But if we’re just hanging by the pool or beach or lounging around on the weekend el natural can definitely be cute.

How about down there?

I prefer a neatly groomed landing strip.  I know it can be hard to maintain but definitely looks prettier.  I mean completely bare is great too but definitely only if you wax regularly.  I prefer women to wax in general if they can, arms, legs, wax it all!  In my experience some girls who shave get really prickly down there if you know what I mean.

When it comes to a woman’s beauty what’s your sweet spot?

I’d have to say nice legs.  It is definitely very sexy when a woman is wearing a tight pair of jeans and has that perfect amount of separation between her thighs, not too skinny, but just right.

A Peek Inside A Celeb Swag Suite

While in LA this weekend to do the Emmy’s segment for E!, I decided to check out one of the hottest celebrity gifting lounges around at the Kate Somerville Spa.  As soon as I walked in I was served a summer cocktail mixed with raspberry vodka and taken around by one of the Kate Somerville representatives from brand to brand to learn about their exciting new launches, very VIP!

My first stop was at the Clarisonic station where the PR representative introduced me to their newest model which donates 50% to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  Already a fan of the Clarisonic, I couldn’t help but wonder how great the new packaged pink one would look on my bathroom sink.  Since I’ve been doing a lot of traveling, I was given a travel sized one so I’ll never miss it when I leave home.  Earlier in the day, the cast of Mad Men stopped by along with Julia Louis Dreyfus and Felicity Huffman who all raved about the Clarisonic too.

I was introduced to the perfumer of Ajne who creates the most intoxicating blends of perfume one would ever smell. Her latest creation was Vanille and she took me through a whole custom blending lesson and blended one in a beautiful little glass bottle entangled in gold wire.  It’s such a special gift because it’s very personalized.  At the suite she also blended a vanilla musk fragrance layered with soft floral for Denise Richards and a vanilla musk with hints of amber and tobacco for Debra Messing.  She says that men find women who wear a scent with vanilla in it 70 times more sexy.

A jeweler from Paraiba who normally dresses celebs like Rihanna, Neo and Paris Hilton was showcasing his jewels and gave me the inside scoop of what he leant Debra Messing for the Emmys: a 20 karat black diamond ring.  He said that when she put it on her finger her hand was shaking.  That diamond is so big my hand probably would have fallen off!

Fekkai was doing blowouts (Jordana Brewster from The Fast and the Furious was getting one while I was there) and I met the sweetest stylist, Ange Grmolyes who offered to come to my hotel the next day to do my hair for the Emmys.  Thank God for her because she did an awesome job and I knew I could trust her because I love Fekkai in NYC.

Finally, I made my way to Bare Escentuals, (but not before putting a Sprinkles cup cake in my mouth). There, I was touched up by makeup artist, Dondrae Andolini, with cosmetics from their new Buxom line and color matched with the appropiate foundation shade.  Paris Hilton walked in to say hello when I was in the makeup chair, but when asked if she wanted a touch up her reply was, “No, I don’t have time, I have to go to the studio and work.”  What exactly is she working on?

The spa atmosphere was very classy and the ambiance was loungy. All of the brands that participated fell right in line with Kate Somerville’s brand etiquette.

Clutch Sized Must Haves

Yesterday on the Emmy red carpet, I noticed tons of starlettes carrying gorge studded hard case clutches to match their ensembles.  I on the other hand, rocked a sweet black patent leather one to match my hot pink BCBG cocktail dress.

For me, it wasn’t the clutch that was important, but the ingredients inside it that kept me looking great on the red carpet all day long.  Check ‘em out:

  • Oral-B Advantage Floss Picks Plus Scope Outlast - I was able to hang out in the production area for E! and munch on some food before my segment. Thanks to these I didn’t have any food in my teeth in front of the cameras and my breath was fresh.

  • DERMAdoctor Med e Tate - It was 90 degrees in LA and this little wipe prevented me from sweating and having embarrassing sweat stains on my brightly colored dress.

  • GoSmile Touch Ups – I threw a few of these in the flavor Green Apple in my bag just in case I had a glass of wine or cup of coffee throughout the day.  I ended up having a Starbucks Grande Skinny Vanilla Latte. (my fave)!

  • NARS Lip Gloss in Orgasm – I must have reapplied my gloss twenty times through out the day.  (Maybe a little obsessive, but I can’t help it).

  • Goody Lena Barrette – This little silver sparkling barrette matched my earrings and was good to have just in case I wanted to pin up my hair.

Even though this is what I carried on the Emmy red carpet, it’s exactly the same as what I carry in my clutch for a night out with the girls or on a hot date. What do you carry in your clutch?

Live from the Red Carpet

Today, live from the Emmy red carpet, I’ll be doing a segment for E! on the secrets behind some of my favorite celebrity must haves. Ashlan Gorse of E! is the host and I’m extremely excited!  Make sure you tune in tonight to watch all of the pre-Emmy coverage. My segment will be on around 5:30pm on both coasts, but it can go on anywhere in between 5 and 5:45 so make sure you start watching early!

None of this felt real to me until I stepped foot on the red carpet yesterday at rehearsal.  I love doing live TV segments, but doing a segment for the Emmys for E! is a dream come true.  The producers are all such a pleasure to work with and Ashlan is such a sweetheart.

Last night I was out with beauty blogger, Jamie Stone, of Queen of the Quarter Life Crisis at the Tropicana Bar at the Roosevelt Hotel and ran into none other than E! personality Sal.  I introduced myself and told him about my segment today with Ashlan and how nervous I was.  He was super cool and told me to not to stress because E! wouldn’t have hired me if I wasn’t an expert.

So here I am today, getting ready to hit the red carpet and reveal to E! viewers the secrets behind the the looks of some of my fave stars.
